I understand shit got real when 9/11 was mentioned, but…..so much for "we don’t negotiate with terrorists"
Jay and Silent Bob can do a movie together and I’d feel the same if it go cancelled.
Ever since I watched This Is The End, everything Rogen does or everything that Franco does, is just the same as Pineapple Express 2.
Steve Carrell’s movie "Pingyong" was also cancelled.
Sony is considering having a premium VOD of the movie in digital format.
But, so far, they’re not making any decisions about what to do.
Of course Sony, instead facing the problem, threatens legal action against news organization who report on the hacks. (Never a good sign when your strategy is to attack the messenger.)
Finally comes that BS threat against moviegoers who see the film, theater chains show their true color, yellow, and Sony folds like an old beach chair. That’s all it takes, leaked emails, some embarrassment and a threat and major corporations wave the white surrender flag?
When did U.S. companies become French?
What Sony should have done is rally the country: take out full page ads in major newspapers saying "F*ck Terrorism", run a series of TV commercials saying the same, work a deal with the theater chains – show the movie and you get to keep most of the profits – and basically give the middle finger salute to North Korea.
If there’s an earthquake at Arlington National Cemetery it’s because all the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines buried there are turning over in their graves.

I read that in the latest Sony hacks, a NEW script for the Ghostbusters reboot involved Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt.

This news item tells you a lot about the mindset of the American business community: after the major theater chains decided against showing The Interview their stock prices went up.
Freedom make be priceless but cowardice certainly has a dollar value.
"As of last night, a genuine copy of The Interview hadn’t been spread around Internet file sharing sites. It’s possible something hit this morning, but if it has, no one really knows about it. There are, however, numerous sites claiming to offer a torrent to download, according to Softpedia. Unfortunately, many, or all, of those sites are actually offering merely a ruse. Some of the fake torrents are actually just The English Patient with malware embedded inside. Others are asking users to fill in codes or complete surveys prior to watching the "film" in order to gain access to various portions of the user’s computer."

that joke about "french" got old 10 mn after the invasion of Iraq
These guys must have some pretty big balls and tiny, non-functional brain cells to not know of America’s responses to both Pearl Harbor AND 9/11.
Kinda reminds me of the following: first up is part of the closing monologue from "How to Train Your Dragon 2" –
"Those who attack us are relentless and crazy, and the people who stop them, oh, even more so!"
This next bit is from the latest season of Red vs. Blue (if you haven’t watched the show, go buy the DVDs and bring yourselves up to speed – I guarantee you won’t regret it) courtesy of Leonard L. "Epsilon" Church:
"Bring it on, motherf-ckers! We’re not going anywhere!"
Now I just need to find an English-to-Korean dictionary so I can send the following message to Kim Jong Un:
"Your mother is a whore, a kimchi potter is her pimp and YOU are nothing more than an inbred, inept mistake caused by a broken condom!"
God, that felt all kinds of AWESOME!
Not so fast

I’ve seen that too. It doesn’t matter what threats this cowards give out, someone will have the balls to leak this film.
If sony goes for that bluff, well…they’re bigger morons than I thought.
not just the internet. they want any trace the movie ever existed gone. that’s stupid on a number of levels way over 9000.
It will be released to theaters and it will make a bundle due to the "free" publicity the film has received.

that joke about "french" got old 10 mn after the invasion of Iraq
Oh please, you think I’d use a joke dated back only to the invasion of Iraq? My cliches are vintage, aged for decades in handmade oak barrels and in underground climate controlled vaults to produce the finest in retro-active archaic expressions.
That one dates back to WWII, you know the one with Captain America and the Red Skull.
Look up the Vichy government of France. They folded like a bad poker hand and then proceeded to embrace their inner fascist. They helped the Nazis round up Jews who were then send to Auschwitz Death Camp, the ones that survived the journey after being packed into rail cars without food or water. The Vichy also built gas chambers in France so they could gas prisoners to death so that Nazi doctors would have undamaged corpses to work.
And the list goes on. The French have earned their reputation for capitulation through hard work.
Oh, I almost forgot. Back in the 80’s Libyan terrorists detonated a bomb in German night club and deliberately killed U.S. service-members. President Reagan ordered a bombing strike on Libya in retaliation, and France, a country our military helped free, wouldn’t allow our bombers into their airspace. Our planes had to take the long way around.
Viva La France, indeed.
I only know of upcoming movies when I see the trailers at the theatre. Or posters at the booth.
I don’t live pressing f5 every 3 seconds on imdb or apple.com/trailers. Also, I don’t watch tv, don’t even have cable. If I want to see a series I torrent it. (If it’s that good, I’ll certainly buy the blu ray like I did with breaking bad)

So then I can assume you’re also out of loop with the news? Because if you’ve only just heard of The Interview (which FYI is a major news story right now considering all the shit behind it), then I’m thinking you don’t watch/read or hear about any news.

Sony is known for being commercialist bastards.
Their whole compain for the "Remastered in 4K" blurays was largely misleading and inappropriate ues of information and technology.
Everyonet thought they were meant to be actual 4K.
It’s just fancy upscaling algorithms and software (from Sony BD players combined with Sony TV’s).
Other brands can do the same thing, just differently. And since it’s all closed-source for commercial-profit only, we’ll never really know what the code is and see which one works best. If they’re doing what they say they’re doing and not just cutting programmatic corners just because they can.
Their gaming consoles already produce enough clamor to last for centuries. Even their next gen console will still have its ups and shits.
"true 1080p" vs "true 60fps" vs "Microsoft" vs "fanboyism".
I’m not a console fan, so much. PC may have mods for some games.
Sony also hasn’t released an awesome North American bluray to Silent Hill (2006).
We have to import from France (Metropolitan release).
Sony just doesn’t scream "awesome" like it used to before all the commercial gimmicktry that it has today.
LG is more a name brand I’ll get excited about (unless they try to make their own gaming console, then they’re on their own).
What they should have really pushed for is to have Sony give/sell the rights for Spiderman back to Marvel.
Then we can have a real Avengers team and some real Spiderman movies too.
I don’t why they wasted all their hate on this movie.
Should have leaked it in full bluray, total commercial loss on the estimated "$75 million dollars" it would have made.
That’s how you hurt a movie, not by erasing it, but making the net value plummet.
Look at Darren Lynn Bousman’s 2011 box office flop: 11-11-11 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1712159).
There was an early version of the movie leaked before the final version was to be debuted in the theaters.
The one that leaked would have ended up as an "alternate version" for a 2disc release (if he wanted it that way).
But no one liked it so they didn’t go see it. Not that the actual version he intended was any better.
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve seen any proper version of the film online anywhere.
All versions are the early-leaked version and just renamed to look like the official version.
Barely, much leas news from the USA.
If a huge tsunami was heading this way, I would only know it when it’s splashing on my windows.
A zombie outbreak could be happening in my city RIGHT NOW and I would survive it by just dumbe luck.

It really is North Korea’s fault that this movie is getting so much attention though. Before, it was just a smaller crowd, now literally everyone knows. And, it’s funny, because in some of the SPE leaks there were files and trailers from ‘The Interview’ so they’re basically hypocrites when they say the want everything gone, yet their seeding some of it on Torrents. LOL.

I just realized every rip of The Amazing Spider-man 2 Blu-ray / DVD are totally gone..there’s only one left on KickAss..weird.
I want a world without a Kim Kardashian or anyone remotely like her. I’m being serious when I ask "why do people watch her show?" I tried once and only once and the sheer, raw stupidity on display made my eyeballs bleed. The woman could not pass a blood test without studying. So what is the attraction? Are people’s lives so empty they have to feed like ghouls on the lives of others?
Well of course I was being sarcastic, I wish her family didn’t exist. The people that watch her show are Americans who wish they had her life. I’m embarrassed most times to call myself American.
Those public trackers (torrent sites) usually just cross-seed to existing, bigger trackers.
If TPB and others were taken down en masse, then it’s like whatever torrents stemmed from them are going to suffer a lot of traffic from the next line of trackers (KickAss, others).
Or probably taken down to prevent raids/seizure of domain as something TAS2 would be a compromising title to list.
I would say, try out Reddit for some talk on the next line of public trackers, but I think they might even be under constant scrutiny just by talking about public trackers and posting links to active public trackers.
Worth a shot.
I hear PublicHD is making a comeback.
Sony: 'We Had No Choice' But To Cancel Film (http://news.sky.com/story/1395117/sony-we-had-no-choice-but-to-cancel-film)
Probably why my grandmother risked her life in the resistance, like thousands of other people, you uneducated prick. Learn your facts before spewing nonsense. yes Petain folded. Some people didn’t. and of them, a lot paid a price internet warriors like you wouldn’t even be ready to pay. It cost my grandmother a good chunk of her sanity, what with beeing outside during bombing throwing grenades down the aerations vents of military shelters. it cost my great uncle 4 years in a fortress. when he was freed by the russians, he was a wreck. died a little over 15 years after the war.
And the list goes on. The French have earned their reputation for capitulation through hard work.
Maybe because unlike your country, we don’t have a mere three hundred years history of violence. ours is counted in millenia. what with the hundred years war, the religion wars, the conquest of Louis XIV, the Revolution wars, the Napoleonic wars, and, oh, yeah, almost forgot: that snipet of help we gave a bunch of miserable buggers trying to get rid of the brits. please, we have nothing to learn about war or its cost. we’ve written the damn book with the brits and the germans over 2.000 odd years. Yeah, Petain folded up in 1940. guess what: he was judged for that. he and his cronies paid for that. and the hatred we have for them goes on and on.
Again, before spewing fallacies out of your ass, open a real history book about WWII AND french history, and stop spewing Fox’s and the Republican/Tea party bullcrap blindly.
Yeah, we refused to help you about lybia. we also didn’t took part in the second war in Iraq, and, considering the outcome, it seems better not to be involved in that particular mess. Then there are wars we lost, like in Algeria or Indochina. but considering you people didn’t fare any better in that very area of asia, I don’t really care.
End of thread derailing. if you want to keep up that discussion, keep your crap to yourself. I don’t bloody want to hear it.
According to Sony, it is still Delayed until further notice. They’re currently looking for an outlet that’s not scared to show the film. Right now, they’re looking into online streaming…
Or even dig deep under water, like in GI Joe Retaliation.
Get Sony to sell it some neutral off-shore company that owns the island or underwater villa.
Completely free and just create some servers there and distribute it there?
Then no one is responsible for it’s release. Since no one exists. :smrt:

Nyaah. There’s no upside for Sony. The way it handled this entire debacle is a case study in how NOT to handle a PR crisis.
First, Sony hires Rogen & Franco to make a comedy, and this just my guess mind you, along the lines of Pineapple Express or This is the End, an "edgy" comedy that will bring the 18 to 34 year olds – or people who think they still are or think like 18 to 34 year olds – into the theater. Comedies, traditionally, are relatively inexpensive to make and can return huge profits, especially in overseas markets. (Horror films are the same way, even the terrible ones usually generate a profit.)
Second, the target of the comedy is someone, Kim Jong Un, who no one will feel sympathy for and is tailor made for ridicule. (The North Korean regime is a weird mash up of totalitarianism and slap stick comedy, deadly but at the same time hard, given how the leaders believe, to take seriously. Sort of like what Dr. Evil’s idiot brother would do if he were in charge of a country.)
Third, when North Korea makes good on its threat, the first action Sony takes is fire the head of their PR department. Why? Because he couldn’t or wouldn’t get the wife of some Sony exec as a guest commentator on a TV talk show.
Fourth, this isn’t the first time hackers infiltrated Sony. Back in 2011 hackers disabled its Playstation network and Sony did nothing or learned nothing from that hack. (Did anyone hear how the Guardians of Peace got the network pass-codes from that Sony exec?)
Fifth, their internal security was asleep at the switch. The hackers stole a 100 Terabytes, that’s more than the Library of Congress, and no alarms went off. That’s incompetence on a grand scale.
Sixth, those leaked emails make Sony look like a bunch of gossiping high schoolers, so much so the President of Sony has to issue public apologies. Not the action that instills confidence in your company’s decision making abilities.
Seventh, blame everyone else for your troubles. Threaten to go after news organizations for reporting on the leaks and it’s the theater chains’ fault for not showing the movie. (Maybe if Sony had shown it had a plan and a spine the theaters might have rallied.) Also go on CNN and say, "even though we pulled the movie, which was what the hackers demanded, that’s not caving."
Yeah, when you give in, that’s caving.
Sony looks incompetent and worse, craven. It wanted an "edgy" comedy but forgot the first rule of sharp objects: they have no conscience and will cut whatever and whomever they can. It’s what they do.
When I get a proper job, I might consider buying one. But that won’t be for another 4 years or so, uni permitting. I’ll have to compare the quality and see if it’s really worth it. And the ASM2 Blu-ray/DVD combo pack will still be around – probably a lot cheaper second-hand too. 😉
I’m sure the conspiracy angle will be the next phase of this farce.
I’ll go see The Interview even though I’m not a fan of the Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow brand of comedy. To me it’s that same brand of man-child comedy that Adam Sandler traffics in, just a bit wittier and better written.
I prefer The World’s End than This is the End.
But anything that gives Rogen the clout to make an uncensored Preacher series, I’ll support.
———- Post added at 03:55 PM ———- Previous post was at 03:54 PM ———-
If anybody cares to have looked, the hackers also stole recording sessions, including full sessions for TASM2 and Spider-Man 3. I assume they’d have posted these had Sony not cancelled The Interview.
And they still might if Sony releases the movie.
Yes, we know they got the TASM2 sessions. We have the cue list. Sony have decided to release the film in select theatres, so we may yet see them.
That makes two of us.
It was Spider-Man 3 that I was more surprised to see. It proves that there was a ton of material that the original scorepranos leak just did not have.
No, don’t do that! Then the terrorists win!
?
Well, at least their taste in music is pretty sound.
For that matter I don’t think it’s a publicity stunt, yet I don’t think North Korea has anything to do with it. It seems more likely that the hackers used the north korea as a diversion. that or they’re cyber-mercenaries.
whatever is the case, SPE had it coming, if only because of the ambiant blatant stupidity going on there.
Unless they jack up ticket prices and food prices even more, I doubt there’s a budget for any theater to change security protocol, even for one movie showing.
I think local police will have to volunteer or just take it out of the cities budget.
Which means another school will have to get shut down. Teachers go on strike. The orphanage gets sold out to office buildings.
on a side note… before all this media buzz came along, i never heard of this movie. i still haven’t watched the trailer for it.
they can keep that. at max i rent it for a $1 in HD … sorry, rogen isn’t that funny nor is he a great actor/director.
i never understood why americans love him so much.
let’s see what happens with those threats now.
good luck getting rid of it now 😉
They said Sony could release it?!
Wow, I hadn’t picked up on that. How interesting!
Yes, verrryyy interesting, and it raises a lot of questions. Does North Korea earnestly feel that Sony has "suffered enough"? Were they unable to amass the resources necessary to make good on their threats? Or were they never planning to carry out any attacks at all? Or was it all a publicity stunt? Why would North Korea just decide to allow a film about their leader being assassinated go in theaters after making such a big deal about it?
It’s all very strange… then again, North Korea’s never been known to make logical decisions.
Team America?? His father was depicted as a fucking cockroach. An actual cockroach. And yet N. Korea never got their panties in a bunch over that…
This. this so fucking hard.
I smell a publicity stunt. Now to wait for the fireworks when the US gov and various law agencies were used as marketing tools…all the while blowing money into the wind to "stop evilz hackerz from North Korea" ?
Best case scenario: Sony was hacked indeed, but decided to use that as a way to create a buzz around that movie, inventing NK’s involvement and all the threats going within. In which case these guys are even more psychotic than what their e-mails imply.
Worst case scenario: shit goes boom. people die. Sony has an "Ohh shiiiit" moment. North Korea gloats.
Good thing: the Best case scenario is the most probable. Sony was hacked, there is no doubt. probably not by NK though, as the method nor the gain from doing so was zero in term of cyber-warfare. If you want to piss on the US via internet, you don’t hack SPE. you wreck havoc in bank systems.
But sony probably wondered how to make the best of the shitty situation they were in and thought "hey, we’ve got this movie on that NK fucktard, let’s just say the hack came from them, add a few terrorist threats to ensure a little panic attack, and then release the movie via streaming sites and in indy theaters to make it appear oh so edgy."
whoever had this idea, if that’s the case, is both a genius and a dangerouns mad man. I tip my imaginary tinfoil hat to thee, good sir.
BTW, here’s what you see when you enter the Pirate Bay’s old address:
The black flag is cool…but what about the small Kim Dong Un ?
But don’t take my word for it, let’s tabulate the gains and losses and see how comes out ahead:
Losses for Sony:
100 Terabytes of information, including digital copies of Fury and Annie, money lost that will never be recovered.
Social security numbers of employees, their family members and children. Bet those numbers are for sale on the web.
Class action lawsuit against Sony by its employees for losing that information.
Poor network security exposed.
Emails containing derisive and racially tinged comments for which Sony management had to apologize. (Think Kevin Hart or Angelina Jolie, whose film Unbroken is number two with $47 million, will want to work for Sony?) These emails made the execs look like overpaid gossips instead of business leaders.
Budgets for future films such as the new Bond film costing $300 million. Speaking of budgets, The Interview cost $44 million plus another $45 million to market. This weekend the film earned just under $2 million. Sony will probably take a financial bath and invoke the insurance clause on The Interview.
Sony lawyers threatening to sue media organizations for reporting on the story. Ah, First Amendment, heard of it Sony? Plus, shooting the messenger is a poor business strategy. (And no points to Aaron Sorkin for playing the role of corporate bootlick and defending Sony’s action. This is a classic example of irony: Sorkin writes and creates a cable show about news reporting, Newsroom, in which he often railed against how news organizations cover the news. Problem, his show was more a rant than a reasoned examination of modern news practices. Few people watch TV to be lectured at, so its no wonder his show died. Sour grapes, much?)
Canceling the movie and then Sony blames the movie chains for the decision.
Sony exec going on TV and saying the hackers did not coerce Sony. Sorry to rain reality on your parade, but yeah, they did.
Sony reversing its decision but instead of mounting a full scale counter attack and instead of releasing the movie to thousands of theaters released it to a few hundred. Somebody give Sony a calcium infusion for its spine.
And releasing it online means pirated copies are everywhere, money again lost.
Sony stock prices fell.
Gains:
Well, if Sony’s goal was to make the company resemble the Titanic as captained by Elmer Fudd, mission accomplished. Sony’s ham fisted, club footed, knuckled headed PR response to the crisis will be studied as in how not to respond to a crisis.
because frankly, I still have huge doubts about the hack being the handywork from Kim Dong Un’s little helpers.
Because they were bluffing ? because they’ve used all the juicy bits already and now just have things relatively boring (in their opinion, they might have a shitload of interesting nuggets of knowledge on some movies and why some choices were made), but they may already have used all the dirty laundry and are , again in their opinion, bone dry.
plus, way before the fuss began with the interview if I remember correctly, they were asking for cold, hard cash.

If it’s an ex-executive involved, the terrorist threat may have been made by either another group, or the hackers attempted to cover their tracks by issuing one in the futile and laughable hope that they’d avoid deeper scrutiny in some way.

Criminals are stupid. They never plan the aftermath

ggctuk2005, what I meant to say was that – concerning the two hackers from the U.S. – it doesn’t matter what your agenda is – you don’t make a threat like that against your home country, even if it’s meant as a diversionary tactic; that way lies jail time (and a slight chance for execution) for treason.
I would imagine the demographic for criminals are under-educated with a shitload of "street smarts".
I doubt you can have a reasonable, logical or coherent conversation with most of them.
I bet the genius criminals are fewer and even caught way less than there are genius criminals available.
I used to have some friends who had really dunce friends who would fall into that category of planning only up to the crime.
I bet they all have bastard children, never married, zero custody, and rap every song about their daughters (they’re not man enough to produce boys).
Also throw in no chance of a career until someone close them dies horrifically enough for them to be completely alone to change their entire life style.
I’m glad they weren’t my friends.
I don’t make habits of making friends out of "a friend of a friend".
Largely because no one can have all perfect friends.
Good christ, I love people who know grammar.
Have a sense of humor.
And listen to music (scores).
most of them are dumb as shit. they don’t plan, behave like yahoos and are generally caught without problems.
and then you have the pros or the real predators. I’m pretty sure there are tons of hitmen, professional thiefs, car thief and bank/jewelry robbers that plan ahead enough to evade the cops for some time, if not forever. same for some serial killers, rapists or other monsters of the same kind.
As Al Capone once said: you can steal more money with a briefcase and a gun than with just a gun.
Love it. And that was pun intended I assume?!
Most importantly, it turns stupid as hell. hacking the bus timetable while thinking it’s a travel site for the whole western world. also, they mispelled "Muslim". either it’s a really dumb shithead who is using islamists as a scapegoat, or the aforementionned islamists are even dumber than I thought. and I thought them to be pretty dumb shits already.
The last one made me laugh. a lot.
The whole lot of them graduated from the ACME University of Applied Cartoon Physics, in particular the Wil E. Coyote wing of the school.
In the immortal words of Blue Collar Comedy superstar Bill Engvall (as I hand each of the clowns in the aforementioned articles and lists a scrap of cardboard with printed text that translates into "I’m so effing stupid I flunked recess"), Here’s Your Sign!
Still, in light of what happened in Paris this past week and the aftermath, it’s cool to know that there are still plenty of honest Muslims out there who can send the following message – or something along its lines – to the world:
"These remorseless jihadist cowards do not speak for us or our religion. All who either claim to kill in God’s name or otherwise use His name as an excuse to further their radical extremist agendas will NEVER be welcomed into His kingdom."
Reminds me of this joke:
Osama bin Laden arrives at the gates of Heaven where he gets his ass kicked thoroughly and completely by the Continental Congress – George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Randolph, Patrick Henry, the whole lot – and tossed down into Hell, where he lands in a heap on top of the 9/11 hijackers.
As they shout at him about how he lied to them, he screams up at an angel, "This isn’t what I was promised!"
The angel, in turn, looks down at him and answers, "Hey, I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting up here for you. What did you think I said?!"
It’s a bit more complicated and will cause quite some discussion here in the next weeks. more or less, it seems a tv channel (BFMTV) tried to get an interview of these 2 sick fucks. then, all the while knowing said terrorists had a tv, they kept pointing out exactly where the police snipers were, where the RAID and GIGN were massing to enter, etc, etc. in other words, they were literaly informing the terrorists in real time as to what was happening all around them. other channels weren’t so specific in the details.
As for the terrorists…Well…they were changed in pretty good impersonations of a sieve.
More seriously though, this has pretty much shocked the whole country. I wouldn’t be surprised if the (already quite intensive) search and prosecution/expulsion/imprisonnement of wannabe terrorists increase.
