So, is there a way to create a new post following another post that I just made which has not been followed up by any other post by any other user?
P.S. I did see the timewarp theme, and no.
Sarah (http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/sarah-677530) is the owner, but Jessie (http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/jessie-70703) also has access to the admin control panel.
BTW, have you seen the Halo Waypoint forums, I don’t know about functionality but at least they look superb.

They’re both around, they’re just busy with their lives.
First of all, asking us is not irritating. It’s a fun opportunity to post something meaningless and stupid! Hurrah! :awsm:
Secondly, the only way I’ve found around it is to wait a while (no idea how long exactly). If you come back and post after a while, it’ll register as a new post, not add it to the last one. But I don’t know how long it is. Maybe 30 minutes?
I waited 20m once, didn’t work. There has to be an easier way, I mean a bot could wait it out, record it and start posting based on those wait times so where’s the protection? I mean there should be a way, not easy, not in plain sight obviously but somewhere.
About our secondary convo, do you like this theme and the absence of a logo?

It’s likely set to merge consecutive posts made within a 24-hour period.
As for styles, Let’s Do the Timewarp is the only "official" style of the site, so that’s why it’s the only one with a logo.

If this is true than I should prolly stop this right here, 24-hours is …….ummmmm…………loco.
Yeah, but a logo is a logo. It stays on every theme, adapts if it has to but is one of the fundamental constants in the visual identity of a site. Also, it’s showing its age. This forum may have started out focused on FF (not to say that it’s lost it) but it’s turned into a much wilder beast, more complicated, mature and evolving. It needs something classy, something timeless, contemporary, while still paying tribute to it’s FF roots. My two cents anyway.
Timewarp is very dark. The reason I stopped using was because of this. I’m not saying we should go all out and turn the brightness up to a max, but let’s keep the posts bright and we can tone down the rest to maybe shades of grey or muted primaries?

It’s still a site for Final Fantasy, though, and should, as such, have a logo that fits. 🙂
I dunno. Dark styles are pretty popular on gaming forums, such as here. However, I’m still waiting to hear back from Sarah on becoming a moderator with access to styles, and I could probably come up with something with a balance. In the meantime, though, if you want to make a mockup screenshot showing what you’re looking for in a style color-wise, I can likely whip up something for you with Stylish.

Absolutely, I wasn’t suggesting we should change it to Super Mario (or was I? 😉 :)). The name is ‘Final Fantasy Shrine’ and the logo will reflect that. But what i’m trying to say is that the current logo
would feel right at home in the nineties with the X-files and Blue (da ba dee da ba-) and what’s that translucent text over the characters about? ‘SHRINE.COM’. I was thinking more minimal and white on grey type and less cluttered with all those characters in the bg. Here’s the link (http://www.sultantheme.com/2012/01/08/free-discontinued-styles/?category=22) to the guy I was talking about earlier and the theme preview page (http://www.sultantheme.com/vb4forum/showthread.php?397-ALL-vb4-styles-are-now-FREE). By default it’s got a theme called Futuris which is still dark but graphically not bad. I went through the styles chooser and found ‘Achik2’ which was a little closer to what I was thinking. Greys in the background, main stuff in a muted primary colour and the posts in white or light grey. The idea is not to make it too contrast-y but to have a flow between the palette, as an example dark grey-light grey-teal. I’m working on a draft of a potential logo now.
Maybe there could be a CAPTCHA if you want to post another new, independent post after your last one. I’ve been looking at the new Google reCAPTCHAs (http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com/2014/12/are-you-robot-introducing-no-captcha.html) and they look much better than the other ones around. Can an admin/mod do that?
Favicon (the lil’ icon you see before the URL and the title on the tab)
The following is a rejected initial idea I had with the rectangular bar which features in most FF logos to be this sort of portal through which the titles appear. Obviously, I did not work too much on this. But for sake of variety.
And surprisingly, I realize that this is not a merged post, so yay.
:awsm:
Like I said, I’ve had it happen before with only about 30 minutes/an hour between posts. If nobody else posts here for a while, I’ll try experimenting for you. In 15 minutes, I’ll make another post and we’ll see what happens. Then I’ll wait half an hour and try again. (So don’t reply to this post – just like it to show you’ve read it.)

And there you have it! 😀
Most likely an hour. So that’s not too bad. You’re welcome. 🙂
If you still don’t want to wait a full hour, feel free to ask for more random comments! :awsm:
Wait, do you….have the access?
The post itself could be light grey as to keep the page overall a little bright. The frame, side panels could be darker and for the bg we could use some geometric tiled patterns in a gradient from the light grey to dark grey/black. If the colour from the logos above is okay(it’s #0a1b23), then we could sprinkle that in there somewhere as a secondary colour to avoid the whole monochrome thing.
:awsm:
I went through the same thing just now, feels weird that my name and avi are the same thousands of miles away, I mean I know that it’s everywhere someone reads the forum but seeing it like this is like someone sending you a picture of you on the tv. :awsm:
Exactly my feelings!! It’s really weird… and pardon how this might come across… but it’s also really weird to think that you are a real person, sitting at a computer thousands of miles away on the other side of the world… I have no idea who you really are… but then again, you have no idea who I really am…
Ok, ok, ok, end of random contemplation of the fascinating world of the side effects of modern technology. :awsm:
Looks better, the timestamp frame could match the color of the user details bar so it could envelope the post in a way. Post maybe more lighter. Quote could be the color post is now.
And Stylish,
http://38.media.tumblr.com/52cbaeddeca606a13cff066e9df495a7/tumblr_n9czpgtvYV1thlg3zo7_250.gif
I didn’t even know this existed. I’d heard of and regrettably tried, crappy basic YouTube themers but this is amazing. Thanks.
< Insert Zimmer "BRAAAAHMMMM" here. >
As for the quote block, I kept it a different color than the post body so it’s obvious it’s a quote and not part of the user’s post.
I need to free fall! I’m dying of postception overload! 😛
I’m actually really enjoying watching what you guys are cooking up here. Are you trying to find a new colour scheme for the shrine?
I meant that quote could be darker than post body but lighter than frame.
Gotcha. But otherwise it’s good? If so, I’ll get to work on the whole site.
Does Stylish allow for changing fonts, or the banner image/favicon?

🙂 I know. Me too.
I actually don’t know since neither Sarah nor Jessie have been here. I think the Stylish thing is per-user basis instead of global(for every user of the site). So you could turn it on only for you in your browser with the add-on installed.

Ah… cool. 🙂
That would be nice. 🙂

How about some postception in return? This is how I see you…
How’s this?
The quick reply part looks different though, way out of place.
Yeah, I hadn’t gotten to that area yet. I’m only doing the postbit until you’re happy with what you see. 🙂

Fonts, yes. Banner, possibly. Favicon, no.
Mmmm… Nah. Chrome is faster (and looks cooler). I had Firefox for a while, but moved to Chrome when it first came out. I’ve never looked back. Being able to sign in to Chrome on any computer to see all your bookmarks is just awesome. 🙂
Funny how no one’s mentioned Safari…
Firefox? Yes.
Very good.
———- Post added at 04:21 PM ———- Previous post was at 04:14 PM ———-
Chrome is faster
:notgood:\
Chrome has a tendency to take up to 3GB or more space if you don’t uninstall it to remove all the old updates.
Chrome is handy for synching with your Google account.
But most web browsers have their own synch/accounts now.
A few technical things Chrome has over FF: it’s better with Windows Media Foundation in regards to youtube’s HD@60fps videos.
You can’t really get that on Firefox since FF hadn’t updated to that yet.
Safari
Don’t think it’s updated or powerful enough these days.
It’s just as introductory as Microsoft’s IE.
Opera used to be nice.
Until they changed their whole API system and policies.
Now a lot of the fun features for file sharing/streaming in Opera was removed.

I think Safari gets it done on Macs but yeah the Windows version is crap.
I used to love Opera and then yeah they tried to Chrome-ify it.
How’s this?

By post body I mean the backing of the post content text, in this case "insert zimmer braa…". That could be more lighter. Otherwise, the frame(one with the timestamp and user details) is ok.
Yay, Mmmm. I never shoulda gotten ma hopes up.
My unhealthy obsession with favicons is because when you have a hundred tabs open and they’re squished so that the only thing identifying them is the favicon then seven different sites with the same goddamn vB logo is pretty confusing.
Chrome, IE, it’s all the same until you get FireFox.
I used to do that too. Turn off Aero and optimize for performance things, then I took an arrow to the knee.
I do think Chrome started out problematic but it’s getting better. The same Android vs. iOS thing happened with Firefox and Chrome. FF had a head start and an awesome collection of add-ons. Chrome is getting there with extensions and most things are now on both browsers so it’s ok. The Google Sync thing is very good especially if you’re into the Google ecosystem with Android/Chrome browser/ChromeOS etc.
😯 I just bought Skyrim over the holidays from Steam sales.

Actually I think the new Safari on Macs is supposed to rival Chrome as the most powerful, fastest browser around. But, despite having a Mac, I still use Chrome. I just prefer it.
Is Firefox actually faster? I got frustrated with it because it looked so cluttered compared to the simplistic look of Chrome.
It depends on how many extensions you have installed.
For Adblock, if you end up using every language, you’ll get a speed hit.
There’s also system modification tools (Yamicsoft, I think, Windows X Manager) that change how much resources your browser can use.
Firefox can be customized in that way. Chrome, not so much. Everything Chrome is internal, even their Adobe Flash is a custom build that only updates whenever google decides to update it.
If everything is installed properly and udpated (Flash, Java, etc), then they should all run relatively the same.
The only way something breaks and slows you down is if the plugins/exntensions you’re using have not updated while certain sites have updated or other components updated in Firefox.
In FF, you’ll see a lot of incompatible plugins for newest versions of FF which have never been updated or maintained for centuries.
Since they’re all mostly free that are created by people who know how to create and have the spare time, eventually, some of the ones that don’t get thousands of users and little to no donations, they’re going to stop updating for newer FF versions.
Chrome’s most used extensions are mostly updated constantly, as they’re also the same most-used on FF.
So, millions of supporters for the developer to not lose interest.
Other than that, if you constantly install/remove plugins/extensions/themes, you would probably get various speed hits.
A complete uninstall and reinstall would help that.
Chrome’s data folder can build up to 2+ GB if you don’t clean it out after a year.
In the old days, anyhow. They might have fixed it by now to remove old versions.
The data folder would keep every single version you update to since you first installed it.
Which builds up really fast if you don’t pay attention.

You should check how big your folder is first.
(Windows 7 / 64bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
Right now, mine’s not so bad. I haven’t launched it for a long time between updates.
See, one of those folders is useless.
Only the most recent one is relevant.
I would uninstall it and install it again, but i’m probably not going to use it so much in the near future to worry about it.
I’ll wait until it gets to 1GB and then do that.
