Best Christmas film score?

No songs, but original compositional score for a film that really evokes the holiday season — what comes to mind?

I’m thinking automatically of these:

Little Women (1994) — Thomas Newman
Home Alone (1990) — John Williams
The Polar Express (2004) — Alan Silvestri
Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) — John Williams
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) — James Horner

I like Home Alone and The Grinch.

Also Balto quite a bit.

Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) — Miles Goodman & Paul Williams

Nothing could evoke Christmas more. 🙂

The polar express is one of my favs followed by disney’s a christmas carol.

Home Alone of course, and Mychael Danna’s wonderful score for The Nativity Story!

I said quite a bit because even though it isn’t a "Christmas score", it does evoke that winter / holiday seasonal sound to a strong degree. Very magical feeling.

I was really racking my brain.
"Elf" ? I don’t remember all of it. I usually just pop in the bluray and watch it once I hear a few tracks.

Nightmare Before Christmas (the score parts) ? not as catchy as the lyrical numbers.

A Charlie Brown Christmas? Overplayed at the shopping malls.

Home Alone? A few good tracks to really brighten the mood.

But Die Hard?
Yep. It’s all or nothing Christmas here.

Yep, my traditional christmas goes something like, Charlie Browns christmas, A Christmas Carol (3D film), the Smurfs A christmas carol, Home Alone, Die Hard, and then some film that they don’t show during the year. Usually has nothing to do with Christmas. Does frozen count?

Many of these capture that wintery feel, even though I’m from the Southern Hemisphere. We have a song… Te Harinui. which is our Christmas Song (sadly, not part of any movie score)

Blizzard by Mark McKenzie is also great!

A Charlie Brown Christmas is a bit on the nose I admit, but c’mon the thing SCREAMS X-Mas. Even if heard during the 115 degree summer time….

I want to also add Edward Scissorhands….at least parts of it.

And who could miss out the good old Snowman by Howard Blake? Also, the beautiful sequel The Snowman & The Snowdog by Ilan Eshkeri?

I forgot about Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, which also has a great song, and yeah, some parts of Edward Scissorhands!

Well, Die Hard seems a shoo-in, but what about Die Hard 2 — also set in the holiday season and I think it sounds more festive with Kamen’s direct references to Jean Sibelius’ "Finlandia".

OR for that matter what about Kamen’s "Lethal Weapon", Goldsmith’s "First Blood" and "Gremlins", Silvestri’s "Long Kiss Goodnight" and "Reindeer Games", or Ottman’s "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang"? Hmmm…??

Even though it’s only been around for one Christmas, Christophe Beck’s "Frozen" is rather wintry and in that sense seasonal, even if not directly associated with Christmas.

Polar Express. It needs a proper complete score release, preferably what Sonic did for it.

Yeah, Polar Express, Home Alone, A Christmas Carol are my Christmas! But I love these most Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azakaban ”A Winter’s Spell” & Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt1 ”My Love is always here”. 🙂

Home Alone 2 should be added to the list as well superior to the first film in my opinion.

Is anybody aware of a DVD Rip of The Muppet Christmas Carol by Miles Goodman? If not, is there anybody here who could rip even just the overture from the beginning of the film? The version on the OST is barely worth listening to, as it’s a different arrangement with different instrumentation. They’ve also chopped out the carols.

How about the first winter, and the first Christmas season? "Frozen" 🙂

I like Silvestri’s A Christmas Carol. I do wish, though, there would be a expanded score release though. Both releases (WDW and Intrada) are not film mixes. It’s like they made the soundtrack exclusive to all of the alternates. Grr.
