I’ve seen the film three times now and I’m incredibly frustrated that the best cue from it is NOT the film version. The album version of "The Hanging Tree" is the end credits version which features not only a much weaker sounding choir but they do not SING the lyrics which really gave me goosebumps when I first heard it in the film.

Why does this always happen? First Interstellar now this. I’ve been so excited to get this piece. I can only hope that now the recording sessions will be leaked or else I’ll never get to have this glorious piece of music as it appears in the final film.

Since I haven’t seen it yet, I must ask if this is possibly the saddest movie ever made?
The music indicates such, being (mostly) so low-key and sombre throughout as to be, in some instances, almost boring.
I felt there were only a few interesting tracks – the orchestral second half of "The Hanging Tree" and "Air Raid Drill."
I hope the music works as an enhancement to the action of the movie, which is its purpose, because it doesn’t work for me as a stand-alone score.

Since this is just my opinion, I can absolutely guarantee that the very nature and fabric of the universe will not be altered because of it.
If you enjoy the music … great. Please don’t be upset if I don’t, and call into question my sanity or the marital status of my parents.

Your right about Interstellar! I love the end credits and I can’t find it. It seems be a cue from different pieces. But that one was perfect in the End Credits 🙁 Too bad I can’t find it now I have to wait till the DVD release!

Not actually tracked by the music editor or the director, but reused by the composer. There were a couple of tracked cues in the movie (like Heaing Katniss). Although the sheets of JNH’s Vertical Limit and King Kong show some cues that were tracked into the sheets, with original material written by the composer to compliment it. Same with the intro of Harry’s Closet/Polyjuice reworked in the alternate versions of Ron Leaves in HP7.

Anyway, people should be happy that James finally has his own solo franchise after 30 years, and actually having a sucessful franchise with recurring themes and continuity.

There were a couple of tracked cues in the movie (like Heaing Katniss).

That’s one of the cues I noticed. It was nice hearing it again after it was absent from CF. Healing Katniss, Katniss, The Games Begin (the beginning of that cue), The Train, They’re Back, Victory and I think a few others.

And with a better mix. Really, it’s a stepdown from the mix in Catching Fire (louder choir, more treble, lower synth mix). I’m sure that the choir in The Hanging Tree and Victory! is loud because Shawn Murphy always mixes the boys choir louder than adult choir (Maleficent, Peter Pan, Nanny McPhee 2, Snow White).

I’m talking about the score in general. After the wonderful mix in Catching Fire (and especially the one of Maleficent), this one has a really poor mix. JNH’s writing in his latest scores are complex and memorable, but the mixes ruin it.

Oh!!!!!! Hahaha well then haha but yeah I’ve noticed that He’s been doing a superb job lately. Well that’s me because I’m more of a Zimmer man. But I have listened to the Maleficent soundtrack too! And I couldn’t believe is was JNH! But now, after watching this film… I would like the recording sessions so… whoever has them… you can leave them under my Christmas tree 😀 haha
