I greet this news with a solid "meh."

Not one of my favorites, the pilot episode was fairly strong (for TV science fiction in the 70’s) but then the writing in series quickly devolved. I mean, Star Trek at least waited until the third season until it aired its western in space, Battlestar wasted no time and dragged out that cliche in its first. And then there were the Space Nazis. When you’re dusting off the Sieg Heil boys as your villains, in general you’ve run out of ideas. (Ice Planet Zero = Guns of Navarone.)

But it gave us the excellent series on SyFy (godawful name) so there is always that.

The End of an Era (plus classic Battlestar is finally coming to Blu-ray in the States) (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/111114_1115)

But….I mean, there is only so much enhancement you can get for the old show? It is never really gonna be HD quality….

even stuff from the 90’s doesn’t get upscaled much for blu ray….might be worth checking out though

CBS was able to upgrade the 60’s Star Trek and 90’s Next Gento HD quality. Those series where shot on film which makes it easier to go HD. (The not so easy part was upscaling the special effects. Those had to be redone from scratch.) If BG was filmed then an upgrade can be done. If it was shot on video, forget about it. But what it comes down to is money. It costs a lot to upscale and studios won’t spend the time and money if they think the upgrades won’t make a profit. Which is why if you want a classic series to get an upgrade, buy the series which have already received the HD bump up. Studios pay attention.
