I hate to say it, but perhaps you’re not wrong. This is probably not her finest moment. But hey, let’s not call her voice thin and screechy, let’s just say it has lots of character…

I found also the voice performance of Katharine Hepburn a little difficult at first, but it’s interesting to notice that others gave more relevance to the character aspect: her work in this album got it a nomination for a Grammy award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Spoken_Word_Album) in 1988 in the category of Best Spoken Word.
