The score for Automata was written by Zacaras M. de la Riva, one of the most versatile talents of the Spanish film music scene. A former student of telecommunication who then enrolled to the Berklee College of Music to study film music, de la Riva has already proven himself to be talented in every genre he’s come across. Previous de la Riva scores issued by MovieScore Media include the prior Gabe Ibez collaboration Hierro (2009), the cinemathemed murder mystery Imago Mortis (2009), and the Indiana Jones inspired animated adventure Tad, The Lost Explorer (2011).
Though it is set in the future overrun with robots, Automata features a rich, orchestral score with a haunting choir lending an epic quality to the story. As the composer explains: ”The movie moves constantly between two different worlds. The world of the scifi thriller and the world of the philosophical and metaphysical. The first one deals with Jacq Vaucan’s investigation of malfunctioning robots, the second one deals with the essence of the being and his reality, human or robotic. Music had to resolute this dichotomy, make the coexistence of this two different worlds possible.”
The score features the The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish choir Johannebergs Vokalensemble.
Many thanks.
Not really. Perhaps a candidate for 2014’s "best score influenced by a temp track", though. It’s as unfocused and disjointed as the tepid film it underlines.
However, I enjoy these references under the gaze of this composer . is always the best people listen an opine as you do. In any case I can not find more than 3 or 4 soundtracks with the same level this year 2014.
Goldenthal too!
If I would like to stress the importance and influence in certain composers (such as Zacarias M. de la Riva ) to the ‘ last good time ‘ of the soundtracks (mainly in USA), ranging from 80-90 years with names like John Williams , Jerry Goldsmith, Morricone , Elmer Berstein , with new additions as Horner, James Newton- Howard, Michael Kamen, Goldenthal, Poledouris, Menken, Patrick Doyle, Elfman …all these composers working at the same time gave us a more vivid times of what we were getting later time .

This soundtrack has many references . So I think it is based more on the composer ‘s own musical tastes and their own way of understanding film music. Of course in combination with other factors such as temp -tracks.

Some interesting points. I would agree that it didn’t seem particularly special at first few listens (on Spotify). The previous score to Hierro and to a lesser extent Imago Mortis are both more interesting than this. And I find the choral work to be not my style.
You would be so kind to re-upload, OscarRomelPR?
Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much for re-up Juanfer!!!
