Kunzel says that �This disc is steeped in the rich musical language of Russia and includes recognizable orchestral classics such as Borodin�s Polovtsian Dances and dances from Tchaikovsky�s The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. We�ve also included Rimsky-Korsakov�s brilliantly orchestrated Capriccio Espagnol as well as music by the 20th century composers Khachaturian and Prokofiev.�

The material on Russian Nights seems perfectly suited for Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops. They play these well known Russian favorites with energy and passion. The dances from The Nutcracker and Swan Lake are favorites here but you�ll also enjoy the orchestra�s performances of Polovtsian Dances, Capriccio Espagnol and the Love Theme from Spartacus.

I’ve never really heard much of any of this newer Cincinnati Pops(this one included)so I’m in uncharted waters. I look forward to listening.

You’re welcome, friends. Surely this album won’t be any surprise for the fans: it’s just, as usual, full of wonderful music wonderfully performed. It was released the same year that Kunzel was awarded the National Medal of Arts.

I’ve reuploaded the MP3 set with the five tracks of Capriccio Espagnol joined in a single one to avoid the gaps introduced by the MP3 encoding (addition of short silences at the beginning of the tracks and the loss of short fragments at the end). The rest of tracks didn’t need it because they are individual recordings and their cut points are in areas of silence.
