Usually I’m neither a big friend of compilations nor re-recordings of shady orchestras with completely unknown personnel, but in this case, the recording quality in terms of stunning brilliance and the vehement power of really heavy basses is technically convincing beyond belief and lets you forget listening to a rather unknown danish orchestra.

I never listened to Hitchcock scores with that much impact before.
Herrmann would have loved the craftsmanship of such splendid recordings.

So I just ordered the CD.

I think this is the second of the great-as-Dutton-et-al Toccata’s Mauceri release. And, yes, it’s been so long since any label even glanced toward him. Their first with him an even better Korngold stage score than Ondine’s fine, complete version. And this? Well, thanks to you, it’s ours not just to hear but to live with. THANK YOU!

By the way… Mauceri is like Falletta, Alsop, Oue, Tilson Thomas, Ozawa and many more: an authentic and more than just valuable person who learned so much (and more) not just from but with Leonard Bernstein.
