One of the most beloved and acclaimed fairytale movies ever made, a cult classic in the whole world, which even after 40 years is still regulary running in the TVs at christmas, just like Little Lord Fauntleroy – Tři oř�ky pro Popelku, better known in Germany as Drei Haseln�sse f�r Aschenbr�del (Three Nuts for Cinderella)! Based on the novel by Bo�ena Němcov�, it was directed by famed director V�clav Vorl�ček and stars Libu�e �afr�nkov� and Pavel Tr�vn�ček, as well as Carola Braunbock, Rolf Hoppe, Vladim�r Men��k, and many others in their most renowned roles.

A large portion of the film’s success is attributed to the musical score by the Praguer composer Karel Svoboda. A rising star in the business in that time, known for his work as songwriter for stars like Helena Vondr�čkov� and Karel Gott, was asked by Vorl�ček to write the music for his upcoming film Tři oř�ky pro Popelku. Svoboda himself hasn’t scored a film yet, but he was thrilled about it and had immediately created a few musical motifs in his head. The result is nothing less than spectacular, full of memorable melodies, different styles and a stunning performance of the the Prague Film Symphony Orchestra under conductor Step�n Kon�cek.

For Karel Svoboda, who sadly passed away in January 2007, this is his ultimate legacy – a musical score to a film, which everyone knows by heart, will never forget.

You bet!

It’s a refreshing listen, Maxwill, quite different from the usual scores. Kind of naive, with that mix of old Europe, something of the 70’s and Mediterranean (or that’s what the lutes suggest to me). My favorite is the childish mood of "Chase For Cinderella"; that one suggests me events of animated cartoons and makes me smile. 😀 And the sound is good, so I forgot it’s mono. Thank you.

New recording of Karel Svoboda’s classic score!

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the worldwide popular fairy-tale classic and to commemorate the composer’s 80th birthday on December 19th,
Supraphon released an entire new recording of the complete score. Jan Chalupeck� conducts the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (Česk� n�rodn� symfonick� orchestr).
