What is Your All-Time Favorite Scenes/Episodes in Animation?

Well, I think…

Anyone could just name some of his or her all time favorite animated scenes/episodes as well as some of what everyone could consider the greatest scenes/episodes ever done in animation history, be it from anywhere.

I also mean scenes that are much funnier or dramatic then usual, and/or overall quite remember able. Here’s some of my picks.

1) Samurai Jack: The Birth of Evil

One of the best and greatest episodes from Genndy Tartakovsky’s masterpiece, Samurai Jack (2001-2004), is actually a two-part episode concerning the origins of Aku as well as the forging of Samurai Jack’s father’s magic sword, and how Jack’s dad brought about Aku’s jail time. It is not only one of the most amazing animated things you will ever see on TV in the pre-Games of Thrones era, it is also the winner of the 2003-2004 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming less than One Hour).

2) The Lion King (1994) — Circle of Life

Whenever one hears Lebo Ms African/Zulu chant that opens Disneys The Lion King (1994) (or Nants Ingonyama, for that matter), one always think of the morning sun rising over the African savannah at dawn, alerting an entire animal population from the smallest ant, to the biggest elephant, to Pride Rock, so they can bear witness to the birth of a certain lion cub named Simba.

3) Ren and Stimpy — Happy Happy Joy Joy (From Stimpy’s Invention)

In history, only the epic dance scene of "What’s Opera, Doc?", or the entire "Duck Amuck", could possibly top the notability of the extremely well-crafted Happy Happy Joy Joy. It may of taken over six months to animated, but it was sure worth it.

4) Disney’s Frozen (2013) — Let it Go

Sung by the very actress previously known for playing the future Wicked Witch of the West in WICKED (which is a Broadway musical revision of and some prequel to The Wizard of Oz told from the point of view of the Wicked Witch of the West), this was the winner of the 2014 Best Song Oscar, in addition to Frozen being the highest grossing animated movie of all time (19-20 years after Disney’s Lion King, that is).

5) Rocko’s Modern Life — Wacky Delly (including the infamous title cartoon short)

That’s right. Wacky Delly. Both the Rocko’s Modern Life episode as well as the infamous cartoon short of the title. The Rocko’s Modern Life episode Wacky Delly is itself both a commentary on as well as a metaphor for the creator-driven era of television animation that began with Ren and Stimpy in 1991 and ended with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in 2010!

6) Disney’s Fantasia (1940) — The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

My favorite segment from Disney’s Fantasia, the most ambitious animated movie ever. Period.

7) The Rescuers Down Under (1990) — Cody frees and ride Marahute the Giant Golden Eagle

This is probably the best scene ever from Disneys The Rescuers Down Under (1990)

The very scene where, after freeing the giant eagle Marahute from the ropes constraining her, an Australian boy named Cody was given a majestic, soaring ride through the clouds and through the Australian Outback by said big bird.

It is also one of the absolute most influential scenes from any Disney movie, past or present:

Ever since Cody flies through the Australian Outback and through the clouds atop the giant rare golden eagle Marahute (voiced by Frank Welker, an animation voice artist who specialized in cartoon animal and creature vocals)

So have Harry Potter atop the Hippogriff in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004):

But also so have the ex-marine/alien avatar Jake Sully atop a flying alien creature, known as a Banshee to humans and Ikran to the Navi, in James Camerons AVATAR (2009):

I fondly remembered watching Codys flight atop Marahute in The Rescuers Down Under with my mother and my two brothers when I was a young child.

Codys flight atop Marahute in Rescuers Down Under represents the flights of fancy of many a child, isn’t it?

BTW, animated movies and animated cartoon shorts can count as well as animated TV show episodes, y’know.

And so, how about your favorite animated scenes/episodes of all time, or maybe what you consider the all-time greatest animated scenes/episodes in history (in your own opinion, at least)?

And don’t forget to mention why you like said scenes/episodes!

I have seen a fair few anime that blow those away. Steamboy, for instance. Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle. Can’t even pick a favorite scene, the production quality on all of them is far above most of the stuff mentioned here.

NOT to mean those are not valid choices, sorry. I mean I also enjoy a good number of, say, Powerpuff Girls. I just mean some of these movies I mention reached me on a different level altogether. I’d put Blood The Last Vampire in there too. I personally do not think the CGI effects in movies like Harry Potter should count. I mean otherwise, things like The Hulk in Avengers and Pacific Rim would too, and I think that’s wrong. If the ENTIRE movie is presented as a cgi piece, sure. But not effects designed to work within a live action set.
