Be fair. It is the same album at the same bit-rate and should be merged, but there is just no way to say it was downloaded from Lockdown originally. This album is commonly available and this archive could have originated from any number of places.

Stereoelf uploaded it first in his Monster Club in 2012.
Lockdown uploaded another version (but the same tracks) in 2013.
Judging from the duration of the tracks, I assumed that Tapoktro used Lockdown’s upload.

And i have uploaded this a loooong time ago and in its native non-transcoded 192k rip at the http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/film-score-vgm-hunt-thread-40522/1291.html#post1521926. And who know if this was posted before me by someone else!

The point is that it’s impossible to know who shared what, when it was posted and how it was shared. Or not. That’s why soundtracks that were posted years ago in the forums aren’t being merged, let alone punish members for re-uploading old soundtracks in new links. Nor admins/mods have the time to track down if every single soundtrack was also posted years ago in the forums, with the same file format, edition, etc.
After all most of us, some more than others, had also shared soundtracks that were posted before, doing so in new threads.

This is only a problem when a new soundrack is posted today and is replicated immediately in 3 or 4 duplicate threads by different members. This is one of the two occasions when merging threads are enforced. The other is when the original uploader protests that his/her share was posted without any credit given, and demands that the copied upload or rip must be merged, deleted, etc. When this happens the threads are, safe from some occasional exception, always merged, but this is not an enough reason for members who did the duplicated threads should be punished.

This appears to be one of two versions that I publicly posted on my blog in 2008, which I obtained from someone in a private forum (who surreptitiously obtained the tapes) and I asked permission to repost. I think this is the one with some talking and silences but there’s another version which was cleaned up and included some alternate cues. Unfortunately, I lost them both in a computer crash.

Replying to a year-old conversation that irks me… There are TONS of rare soundtracks (as well as obscure movies, shows and TV specials) that originated with me and are still circulating despite the fact that I closed my blog in 2012. I put a helluva lot of work into many of my shares (and really labored over countless vinyl rips) but the way I look at it is, "Who cares who originally shared them or how often the links are duplicated?" The point is that the files are still making their way into the hands of people who want them… cuz God knows, trying to get stuff like this legally is practically impossible. Either the rights-holders don’t give a damn or (as was later the case with this score) they’re issued as instantly-out-of-print "collector’s editions" which are snapped up by scalpers who jack the prices into the stratosphere. Just be happy that someone made them available in the first place and that our fellow internet geeks are keeping the files alive.

I think the reasonable thing to do is to at least hat-tip or credit the original poster if you’re going to repost – even in a new configuration. Then everyone’s happy.
