Why nobody include one of great Asterix movie in the list yet. "The Place That Sends You Mad" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RBCtaFGcMA) is the perfect replica of your present bureaucracy.
Let’s not forget the "Arsenic cake" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55k3v5NWgLc) song. What a great way to make a cake, deadly !
The movie from the "Studio Ghibli" are incredible work, sad that Disney have the right and send the film out of the way just for then to make profit with the own movies.
Are a list, great pleasure I have to view these movies except those of Takahana.

I grew up with Disney, Croatian (The Elm-Chanted Forest, The Magician’s Hat, Professor Balthazar), Czech (Krtek, A je to!) and Polish (Reksio) animated films. But the most memorable music, which I listen to on a regular basis, is the one I listed.
Also Czech animations had lovely music Krtek and A je to! were I supposed most popular, but also Rumcajs, Křemlek and Vochomůrka, Vodnk Česlko, O makov panence a motlu Emanuelovi.
And don’t forget Russian animation, but here music was not so prominent, as far as I can remember.
Somehow I still prefer our Eastern music to Disney. Well, but that’s just me. Ech, memories…

NINE is cool, no doubt!
Atlantis by J.Newton-Howard?
Ah, the Tim Burton one. Not the Disney Classic.
And yes, I’ve assumed it’s Newton Howard’s Atlantis. Is there another one out there?
And yes, I’ve assumed it’s Newton Howard’s Atlantis. Is there another one out there?
You’re bit dissapointed… I like the chorus motives – repetitive but make me alive & kickin’
I’m not sure maybe this one: www.kronosrecords.com – ATLANTIS: THE LAST DAYS OF KAPTARA by PETER BATEMAN (http://www.kronosrecords.com/K39.html)

Not disappointed – I haven’t seen either film, so I don’t know their scores.
Yeah, maybe. We’ll have to wait and see…
Yeah, maybe. We’ll have to wait and see…
Yes i meant J. Newton Howard Atlantis 🙂
Ah i forgot to point somewhere one of the most epic animation i saw (maybe because its hard to take this as children movie):
Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie by Adam Harvey
2. Coraline (2009, Bruno Coulais)
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, Danny Elfman)

8. The Simpsons Movie (2007, Hans Zimmer)
9. Kung Fu Panda (2008, Hans Zimmer & John Powell)
10. Beetlejuice (1988, Danny Elfman) (I know it’s not an animation film hence why I put it last. Although it is a live-action movie the score has a very "cartoony" style so it just felt right to include it here.)
With the exception of the first 3, I have no specific order for these.

In 1st Place:
The Lion King – Hans Zimmer
Great job, James P. Sullivan! 😀 😀
Yes, I have to say, I really have no experience of the old Disney classics, so I was surprised at the results (although The Lion King was predictable). I’m glad HTTYD came in 2nd. I’ll have to give Lion King a listen at some point. 🙂 And yes, WALL-E deserves a higher spot, but 6th isn’t bad. I was annoyed it didn’t come in at least 5th so that I could do a logo for it. 🙂
Lord of the Rings by Leonard Rosenman (I’m surprised no one else mentioned this…I listen to it often)
The rest of my 10 were covered by others…but if the Dark Crystal counts, then I have to add the Harryhausen classics (both by Bernard Herrmann):
7th Voyage of Sinbad
and Jason and the Argonauts
James: please, tell people that they still can (must!) post their lists. 😉

I love Rosenman’s LOTR! Can’t believe I forgot about it! 🙂
Another old one I really like, from the same year, is Watership Down by Angela Morley (and Malcolm Williamson). Anybody else here know about it?

Let me think about it. 🙂
Alright, but give me a few days to get the composers results posted here before you all go wild. After that, feel free to post lists, have discussions, etc., etc. I’d just rather both results were close to each other on this page if possible.
Anastasia – David Newman
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm – Shirley Walker
The Black Cauldron – Elmer Bernstein
Finding Nemo – Thomas Newman
The Great Mouse Detective – Henry Mancini
Lilo and Stitch – Alan Silvestri
The Nightmare Before Christmas – Danny Elfman

Thanks for your top 10, Liamdude. A very interesting selection, with some fantastic ones there. As you’ve probably already seen, the poll was already counted and the results released. But it’s great to continue the lists anyway. Good to see Cars 2 and Planes on another list other than mine. 🙂

Aside from maybe 1 or 2 scores, this list is very premature. You need to live life and see some more animated films.
Although I do agree with you, try not to be too harsh! I know you don’t mean to be – I’m used to it by now. 😉
That wasn’t harsh, that was me speaking my mind:p
I’m sorry, what?
It’s also known as "The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon". It’s an animated film by Toei.
Polar Express
Finding Nemo
I’m sure there are others but those are my top ones.

There’s The Lion King again. Why is it at the top of everyones’ lists?? I’ve heard a little… but it hasn’t grabbed me hugely. Could somebody point me to a particular cue that is so stunning as to justify this score’s place as number one on this poll and everyones’ personal lists?!
If So Disc 1 Ttrack 21 "The Rightful King" 11Mins Approx Is My Fav Piece Its The Final Battle & Simba’s "Crowning"

Brilliant. I’ll check those out asap.
8m19 An Arguement / You’re Mufasa’s Boy / Remember. A little over 2 min into the cue there’s a duduk that plays the main theme of the film. It’s when Rafiki is singing and throwing the rocks at Simba. That segment right there is my absolute favorite piece of film music. Ever.
But NOT the version off The Legacy Collection. Some moron at Disney or RCP decided to remove the duduk, therefore it’s not the film mix. I was heartbroken upon discovering this and it’s why I never bought it.

^In my opinion, the best piece of music Zimmer’s ever written.
Personally, I’d avoid the Legacy Collection and stick with the leaked complete score – there were some really weird mixing decisions with the official release that replaced some of the ethnic instruments and choral bits with weird-sounding samples.
And that Lion King cue is 3m7, right? I’ll have a listen.

Exactly. Have a look at what I was talking about last night:

I should get round to listening to An American Tail sometime. More Horner can’t be a bad thing.
I’ve got my remastered versions of it and The Land Before Time floating around here somewhere.
Personally remastered?
Btw, I miss your little doggie.
Or, to be precise, one of the main themes. That motif for Simba sort of shares the spot for "main" material with Mufasa’s theme, which serves as a prominent idea representing both his father and the position he must fill for his subjects. It makes the ending cue all the more satisfying when we open with one final rendition of Mufasa’s theme and then it segues(with a reference to Zimmer and Mancina’s previous work, Millennium) into the triumphant variant of Simba’s, signifying him finally taking his rightful place.
I always liked the thematic complexity within TLK’s score. The film has the standard run time for most of the traditionally animated Disney features, and yet it still manages to pack in around a dozen reoccurring motifs for a number of characters and situations. Some are utilized more than others, but are still leitmotifs all the same.
Foolish me – I bought it unheard and was incredibly disappointed.
Secret of N.I.M.H. (J. Goldsmith)
Watership Down (A. Morley)
Man, how did I forget those two? Both are excellent. Bruce Broughton’s The Rescuers Down Under and David Newman’s Anastasia should probably be on my list somewhere too.
I was talking about the soundtracks for both. I did my own customized audio enhancements on them.
I might change my avatar back, but for now I was happy with Mr.FHRITP.

2. The Land Before Time
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. The Prince of Egypt
5. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
6. How to Train Your Dragon (series)
7. Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal and Rurouni Kenshin: Reflections*
8. Atlantis
9. Pocahontas
10. Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might (Kikuchi’s score)
*These two features were originally multi-part OVAs, but both received Director’s Cuts, so they should probably count as full-length features. I really dislike both of them from a viewing standpoint, but the scores were phenomenal.
This was kind of a tough list to make, as my favourites usually fluctuate (apart from TLK always being number one), and there are A LOOOOOOT of amazing animation scores to fall in love with and then re-fall in love with. Then there are the scores where one might fancy a particularly striking musical idea, but doesn’t really have an entire body of work to gush over (Aladdin comes to mind, where "One Jump Ahead" becomes a really endearing leitmotif for the titular character, but there isn’t an official complete score release to get all the juiciness out of it).
Please, feel free! (But be sure to repost it here, not edit your original post, so we can all see it here without having to go to the first page.)

Very nice list, thanks for your contribution! Seems I should take a re-tally and see if the results have changed!
I really want to see and listen to The Land Before Time. Any excuse to own more Horner. 🙂
Prince of Egypt is very, very nice.
Spirit is my holy grail, as you all know.
The HTTYD franchise is awesome, particularly the first one. Can’t wait for another entire Dragons score for the final instalment of the trilogy!
I really want to watch Atlantis sometime. And for that matter Treasure Planet.

They all count as separate scores. At least separate David Newman from John Powell.
But hey, include them as close runners-up then.
Keep Continental Drift on the list.
But hey, include them as close runners-up then.

You’d rate Continental Drift higher than Newman’s original??
Indeed I would.
It’s my opinion. It’s more the type of music I’d listen to.
You don’t even have to have as many as ten choices – it could just be your top two or three.
(If you have hundreds, like me, please just list the top 10, and then some runners up.)

Goodness that’s hard. For general listening I’d go with older classic Disney soundtracks to be honest, often more for the vocal tracks rather than for the isolated scores . Not especially keen on some of the modern ones though. In the order that they popped into my mind:
Beauty and the Beast
Peter Pan
The Little Mermaid
Frozen (I know "Let It Go" has been battered to death, but I do like the music anyway)
The Lion King
Mary Poppins (well it has animated sections, does that count?)
The Jungle Book
The Many Adventures Winnie the Pooh (indeed anything by the Sherman Brothers is good in my book)
Polar Express (how did that sneak into my otherwise Disney list?)
Any of the classic princess fairy tales (in order, probably Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White)

Nice choices! I, too, like Beck’s Frozen score.
