So this was the first 16-bit entry in the Ganbare Goemon series, which is basically a series of ninja adventure games played from either a beat-em-up or side-scrolling perspective. The Goemon series is known for its humor and charm, which is awesome because it doesn’t take itself seriously and allows for a lot of funny scenes and parody. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja was the only localized Goemon game the States got until the N64 era (and those games PALE in comparison to Mystical Ninja on the SNES), but more importantly, the MUSIC IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.

Now I’m a guy that MUCH MUCH prefers the sound of the Genesis to the SNES, but every now and then a SNES game will cut through the reverb and muffled instruments and actually manage to really blow me away. Yuzo Koshiro did it with Super Adventure Island, and Konami mostly did it with CV4 and a few other titles, but THIS GAME MAN. You can hear the joy and excitement bleed through every song, and it’s just so goddamn whimsical and catchy and uhhh, this game.

If anyone would be kind enough to do a high-quality FLAC rip of Legend of the Mystical Ninja on the SNES, I would be forever grateful 😀 😀 😀

A good example of the kind of sound Mystical Ninja has to offer. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aTKbjy88hg)
