"It wasn’t lies, Jenny. It was acting."
[donning the Rocketeer helmet] "How do I look?"
"Like a hood ornament."

THE MOVIE
Straight from the pages of a pulp comic from a past era, the Rocketeer recreates 1930’s Hollywood, complete with gangsters, Nazi spies, and the growth of the Age of Aviation.
Bill Campbell stars as Cliff Secord, an eager young pilot who finds himself in possession of a secret jet-pack that gives him the ability to fly. Cliff soon learns that screen-star Neville Sinclair (Timothy Dalton) will stop at nothing to get his hands on the rocket pack so he can give it to the Nazis.
As The Rocketeer and with a little help from his mechanic friend played by Alan Arkin, it’s up to Cliff to elude Sinclair, defeat the Nazis, and save his girlfriend Jenny (Jennifer Connelly). Rounding out the cast is mobster Eddie Valentine (Paul Sorvino) and inventor Howard Hughes (Terry O’Quinn).

THE SOUNDTRACK
The whimsical music for The Rocketeer was composed and conducted by James Horner.
Most of the Rocketeer soundtrack elicits the adventure and lifting spirit of the film and reveals how Horner incorporates rich instrumentals in the tiniest crevices.
Horner brings on a full, stunning orchestra and when he overdoes it, it is
in a jolly way — he never exhausts his medium. That is what separates him from inferior composers, and what makes a nice film like The Rocketeer extra nice.
It is a soundtrack worth listening to, and Melora Hardin’s covers of E.A. Swan’s "When Your Lover Has Gone" and Cole Porter’s "Begin the Beguine" add just the right touch of ’40s authenticity.
This complete soundtrack includes Horner’s interpretation of 40’s tunes such as Duke Ellington’s "In A Sentimental Mood" and Cole Porter’s "Easy To Love". And inter-dispersed throughout the film (sometimes played on a background radio) are original Artie Shaw tracks such as "You’re A Sweet Little Headache" (with Helen Forrest), "Any Old Time" (with Billie Holiday) and "All Dressed Up And No Place To Go".
As in most soundtracks, there are some FX that are impossible to remove.
I’ve reworked this v2 soundtrack, minimizing them where possible and correcting the order of all tracks and eliminating the duplicates to exactly match the film.
I also want to thank ‘Soundguy28’ for providing the original track list template and some of the original DVD tracks. "Amboss Polka (radio music clip)" and "Movie Music" are included for completeness but are inherently loaded with background sounds.
I think however, you’ll find this version listenable and a good representation of the film.
Enjoy!

Can’t wait to hear this! One quibble: the Nazi Propaganda film is NOT "Barrage by Charles Williams". I’m not sure if Horner composed it the actual track in the film, but it is 100% not "Barrage" .
By any chance can you name that tune?

*Update: I went to this site, and played "Aerial Activity" => http://m.firstcom.com/en/Browse/Labels/CD%20Listing/CD%20Details.aspx?cdId=992
and it matches the Propaganda film track exactly.
Thanks for the catch!
See if it sounds like the Propaganda film track.[/QUOTE]
Well, it looks like you are correct? I looked at this "Barrage by Charles Williams": Charles Williams ? Barrage ? Listen and discover music at Last.fm (http://www.last.fm/music/Charles+Williams/_/Barrage) and it sounds nothing like the one you linked to. Odd. My apologies, and I’m glad to find out the actual track!

The track "Barrage’ by Charles Williams on itunes sounds nothing like the cue either. Very strange.
I was close, it’s "Aerial Actvity" by Charles Williams!
So, I made the corrections and re-uploaded the collection.
I’ve also included DaUpp’s great cover.
Thanks again!!

No offense, but that track isn’t right either. On that site, Barrage, IS the correct track. Aerial Activity doesn’t match the movie at all. I know because I have an old mp3 that I ripped from the dvd with FX. It seems that different sites have the tracks named differently. Listen to Barrage on the site you just linked to: THAT is the Nazi music. Trust me, I love The Rocketeer: I’m tryping this from under a Rocketeer poster on the wall in fact!
I do love the rest of this 2 cd set…great work!

OK, in case you’re keeping score, I think we’ve finally nailed this one.
"Aerial" is out, "Barrage" is in.
Thanks scoreman79 for helping me sort this out.
I’ve re-uploaded the collection and adjusted the links in #1 above.
just downloaded your ROCKETEER Complete Score v2 version and listened to it.
Wow! You did an incredible job on the DVD 5.1 track – the music seems sonically to be intact
and there are no SFX at all except for the few tracks you mentioned.
This beats the old 22-track version which was available for the last years – and included lots of SFX – a 100 times!
As long as Intrada does not do a complete version via their business relationship with Disney
your version is the definitive one!
By the way – maybe you could do the same marvellous job with the DVD 5.1 track
of the U.S. MARSHALS DVD which contains an excellent score by Jerry Goldsmith?
The score release on CD by the Varese Sarabande label with under 30mins was much too short
so this Goldsmith score cries for an expansion …
Wouldn’t this be a good idea?
Regards, Klaus.
Now in a typical movie, they always seem to throw in SFX in places that just can’t be removed.
So here’s where it gets to be fun.
You listen to the bars being played behind the SFX and if you are lucky, you can find the exact same bars in another track (that doesn’t play the SFX).
Using simple mixing you can fade out the SFX and fade in the clean bars.
When the SFX has passed, you can fade the original track back in.
If you have a good ear and match the beats exactly, the playback should sound exactly as it was originally recorded.
Why wait? 🙂
Thank you very much for the share.
I know the answer, but i can’t help wondering : does someone know if "In A Sentimental Mood" (in THAT movie’s version) is somewhere available ??? OMG, what a great song ! Pleaaaaaaaaase….
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane – In A Sentimental Mood (1962) (Edition 1995)
https://mega.co.nz/#!dtx0haCb!HL-rTDETX-5nO1e_mbJHsU0w59eZ81wN14uc_zl5ASM
In fact i meant the film version, from spetragl’s mix :
1:02:32 25 In A Sentimental Mood1 – James Horner (Duke Ellington) (0:23)
1:03:05 26 Disguise (0:29)
1:03:32 27 In A Sentimental Mood2 – James Horner (Duke Ellington) (0:25)
(much more orchestral)
but not the original one 😉
42 In A Sentimental Mood (original complete) (3:15) – Duke Ellington
That’s why i was pretty sure to be disappointed ^^
But still, many thanks for your very fast answer !!!
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane – In A Sentimental Mood (4:18).
I’ll wait for an Intrada/LaLaLand/… edition 😉
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane – In A Sentimental Mood (4:18).
The instrumentation is similar to the Vince Guaraldi Trio (Piano, Drums, Bass) with the added Sax.
That’s a gorgeous version as well.
just listened to your beautiful restoration of James Horner’s complete ROCKETEER score.
I recognized, that track 32 Neville Sinclair’s House (7:25) should play 7:25 minutes but stops abruptly at 3:00 mins
with the last 4:25 mins being silence.
Can it be, that this track 32 is corrupt?
Would be nice to know – maybe you can check and reupload the corrected track 32 ?
Thanks for your help.
Kind regards, Klaus.
I corrected the truncated file and re-upped the collection.

I don’t usually like sfx, but i’ll give it a listen anyway!
This score is so great!
This complete soundtrack wound up on a Russian file share https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=18&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CEwQFjAHOApqFQoTCPmR5ejZtccCFQJcPgodbTYFWw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fanyost.ru%2F728-the-rocketeer-complete-soundtrack-v2.html&ei=8cDUVbnVL4K4-QHt7JTYBQ&usg=AFQjCNHRZeiOhmzf4XJqvBjCgBYjFuLKZQ

Just curious, did you correct that problem with the one track?
Not to worry; this version is complete with all of the missing tracks.
