There’s some other interesting stuff out there by Saegusa. Four Concertos: Violin, Cello, Piano and Sangen, Douran Symphony, Provence Suite. Unfortunately these are all difficult to find except for on Japanese auction sites. His symphony in particular was only released on LP in 1980.
Don’t be fooled by that odd cover because the score is nothing but great!
I like the fact that there are only few tracks and yet most of them are quite lengthy. This allows the music evolves as if it was played on a concert.
My favorite track is #7. Track #5 is a beautiful adagio and love the last track with those lush strings and gorgeous writing for woodwinds. Short but lovely and perfect to finish the album. Great score 🙂
Now let’s hope the other Saegusa Taiga Hana no Ran, and his film score Yūshun may leak someday!
