Charles Tournemire – Oeuvres pour Piano – Georges Delvall�e (2cd, Flac)

Charles Arnould Tournemire (22 January 1870 – 3 or 4 November 1939) was a French composer and organist, notable partly for his improvisations, which were often rooted in the music of Gregorian chant. His compositions include eight symphonies (one of them choral), four operas, twelve chamber works and eighteen piano solos. Contemporary of Debussy and Ravel, Tournemire was able to translate the ephemerality and harmonic fluctuation of musical impressionism, but was looking for and great impressionists unusual combination of register-to play "hovering" acoustics of the cathedral space. Olivier Messiaen admitted that mysterious and poetic Tournemire organ sound each time caused him blinding admiration and undoubtedly influenced Tournemire music on his own. In piano works of Tournemire influence Frank coexist with the innovations of Debussy and Ravel, symbolist mysticism with Gregorian chant – very original mix of atmospheric meditation, prayer, mysticism, traditional dichotomy of Christian asceticism and worldly sensuality.
