Line-in rip, breaking into 3DS games is still a trade secret.
EDIT: The lack of Boss themes suggests that there’s no sound test, shame; thanks though!
I assume you’re talking about the Title Screen most of all? Yeah, that track definitely is an ear-ringer, but it would simply be better with different instrumentation.
The Yoshi series itself seems to have music that’s hit or miss; either you’ll love it or you’ll hate it. Yoshi’s Story, for example, is pretty heavily criticized for having a simple song with multiple variations played throughout the game, while many listeners love the soundtrack for its upbeatness. For Yoshi’s New Island, the soundtrack (like with the Title Screen track) has its moments of questioning, "Why would Ishi do it this way…" But for the most part I deem it an enjoyable listen; maybe that’s because I’ve become accustomed to "cutesy" tunes.
The good:
I do appreciate it that it tries to use a slower tempo for its happier tunes. (The "Overworld" probably does this the best in all honesty.)
The Map theme in this one is actually more enjoyable than the DS’.
It’s nice that it tries to use the Main Melody in multiple variations. Whether it succeeded or not is up to you, but I like the idea when done right.
The Title Screen; call it stockholm syndrome or whatever, but I actually for whatever reason find myself smiling from the kazoo!
The bad:
Why use the slow tempo for the boss music?! It’s going to end up being a snooze fest!
That Map theme maybe decent, but holy hell it can get a little annoying for awhile!
Some of the variations are outright bad, or just has poor choice of instruments.
What? I still like that Title Screen damn it! >_>
Also this article (http://www.p4rgaming.com/us-government-leak-reveals-cia-uses-yoshis-new-island-music-to-torture-prisoners/) I found is absolutely hilarious! (It isn’t real. It’s a nice read if you’re curious!)
To give a brief summary of it; the government uses this game’s music to torture their inmates for information. I thought I share that! That’s a satire website. In other words, it’s not real.
