The Agent is a Russian point-and-click adventure about a smooth-talking special agent sent to a sleepy little seaside town of Nerovnomorsk to investigate the disappearance of the local crime boss and prevent a gang war that consumes the town in the wake of his absence.

It’s also not very good, to be honest. The character animation is fucking atrocious, the voice acting ranges from semi-competent to "did they just grab whoever happened to be around the office for this?", and the game has obviously not been playtested enough, but despite all of these things, I’ve had a soft spot for it ever since I was a kid.

It’s got a few things going for it. The hand-drawn backgrounds have a certain amount of charm to them. The main character’s attempts at dry wit hit the mark fairly often. And I always felt it really nailed the atmosphere of a godforsaken post-Soviet resort town during the off season.

Oh, and I guess the music is kinda nice. I replayed it recently, and it still holds up.

The developers were nice enough to put the mp3s right there in the data folder. What I did was simply extend them, make them louder and come up with the names. Oh, and I also threw in the music from the animated cutscenes, voices and all, for completion’s sake.

If you care enough to download this thing, start off with 07 – Midnight Wanderings, 09 – Nerovnomorsk Blues, 11 – The Plot Thickens and 19 – Dead Season. Dead Season is probably my favorite; I still find myself humming it every once in a while even after all these years. 🙂

Enjoy!
