Special thanks to Dag for working on a script to decode the game’s dat files.
Both gamerips have real file names. Regarding Otogi 2 tracklist – it might seem like some tracks are missing, for example bgm_19, 30, 31, 32, 36. I assure you – they are not. I checked and double checked file contents of both Japanese and English versions of the game – there are no such tracks, everything that is there to rip has been ripped. My guess is those tracks existed during production but never made it into game’s final form. Probably because some levels were cut.

If Shadow Tower: Abyss was mother of Demon’s Souls, Otogi 1-2 were father…or not?))))
If Shadow Tower: Abyss was mother of Demon’s Souls, Otogi 1-2 were father…or not?))))
I heard that the dev team who made Otogi1&2 worked on Demon’s Souls, and that is why I originally tried (and loved) that game. Never played Shadow Tower, but I did play Kings Field 1&2 on the PSX when they first hit the US.
While I love the music for Demon’s/Dark Souls, the music for Otogi is on a higher plane of existence!
Again, thank you Mil0 for providing such an incredible treasure trove of rare music!
From ST: Abyss Souls took…the list is longer, but also lost smth – no crazy alien setting, no guns, no cutting out limbs
That’s the biggest and the best Christmas present I have got of my entire life !!!! 😮
I have just one question, how did you do this rip ? with audio capture or digital conversion ? either way, this is brilliant, wonderful, thank you !!!!
Yep, these rips are basically the best contribution ever to gaming soundtracks. Thank you very much!
First download of the year, two amazing games that seems to have been forgotten by time. Many thanks for this Milo! You deliver yet again.
I totally agree with you guys !!
I have just one question, how did you do this rip ? with audio capture or digital conversion ? either way, this is brilliant, wonderful, thank you !!!!
It’s a digital conversion directly from game’s files. The contents of DAT files were extracted, which resulted in Xbox ADPCM WAV files, and those were decompressed into regular Windows WAVs. Each DAT file has a corresponding XPS file which contains the real track names.
Thank you for this, I have tried to extract them by myself, but I was only able to get in-game voice and "Voice" the otogi vocal theme.
Did some of people of Xentax helped you ? or it’s a lonely work ?
Do you also find music of Lost Kingdom II being wonderful? And Echo Night, of course
Echo Night is fantastic. The game audio really makes the atmosphere. I love how slow and deliberate the ghosts talk. From Software really does some unique work with their audio.

It was Dag who helped me, he’s on these forums as well as vgmdb. He wrote the script for QuickBMS to extract DAT files. After xbox WAVs were extracted from DAT files I was able to use Xbox ADPCM decoder (xbadpdec.exe) to decompress them to regular WAVs. The decoder xbadpdec.exe can be found here: Luigi Auriemma (http://aluigi.altervista.org/papers.htm)

Speaking of atmospheric audio in From Software games, today I looked at Shadow Tower Abyss to rip some music, turns out there are literally only 2 tracks in the whole game, but one of them is pretty good. Here it is:
STA SR (Shadow Tower Abyss) [PS2] (https://soundcloud.com/milozz/sta-sr-shadow-tower-abyss-ps2)
The day I made my account I found this great score back when it was posted. The sound is delightful, spooky, peaceful all at the same time. I never played the game, but I love this type of Japanese traditional sounding music. This one makes you feel like you’re in the underworld of Japan’s folk tales.
Thanks, MiL0!

There are a bunch of tracks that are the same exact files. See the OneDrive link below for the spectrograms.

If anyone else has Otogi, could you please help me fill in the missing tracks? I’m 99.9% certain I have all the filled tracks correct.
Also, thanks to MiL for the FLAC rips, the old rips I have were really poor quality MP3 rips.

Thanks for this too. I’ve updated your list by the way, but I’ve already renamed files so I thought maybe we could do it this way. Here is a screenshot of my folder () (sorry for the typo on track 34), with track lenght (on the far right) so that anyone can compare and complete the list despite different file names. It’s mostly Forest of Havoc and menu stuff.
The "wind" track at the end sounds like what you hear on the stage select menu, but not as loud. I’m not sure if it’s from there, but whatever I guess.
