Thank you!

Surprisingly, this ST didn’t make it to CD until 1991 (Japan):
Personally, I don’t care for most Steve Hoffman masterings as they sound too "midsy". DR is a (and just one of many) measurable or subjective parameters. But like LP/vinyl/analog sound, the scientific parameters man has yet added to that ever-expanding list of things we can now measure/track… including:
" Vibrations of the ear can be as small as 10^-8 mm or smaller than a hydrogen atom! "
Lecture Notes (http://www.colorado.edu/physics/phys4830/phys4830_fa01/lab/n1120.htm)
The hydrogen atom thing may be useful. I’ll have it in mind to justify asking for lossless: "Yes, I’d like FLAC if possible, please… You know, just a single bit is much thicker than the H atom and my ear is able to perceive vibrations shorter than that" 😀
Many thanks for the share.
The DCC version doesnt sound very well. Steven Hoffman usually remasters rock, soul and similar stuff, music that is old and sounds like that. He always uses a tubed pre-amp for all of his remasters. Here it shows. The distortions added by the tubes reveal themselves in harsh brass and slightly piercing overall sound. What works for rock or soul doesnt work for orchestral music. The staging is very centered, the stereo width of the Hoffman-remaster isnt very wide. IMO this is one of the most overrated remasters in existence… I happily sold my CD years ago.
Im very happy with the Concord release. Yes, it does have some more or less severe errors (dynamic compression via automated fader) but at least it keeps the sonic balance as engineered by Eric Tomlinson.

Thanks for that…. I really like the sound of the Concord version but why oh why did they put that crazy edit in the Desert Chase… it does my head in completely….

I know that this comment is nearly six years old but I agree. That the Concord release is better in sound quality over the DCC album. Even though I pefer both the Polydor/Japanese release (and the DCC) so it matches with the Polydor-ToD and the original Last Crusade album.
