Well, where to begin… first things first, this is a Livestream recording so don’t expect any wonders. Only very few minor clicks and distortions this time around. The audio quality could be a lot better though. No HQ-Audio stream was available so we must take what we can get. But it’s a shame because this is a really fantastic concert. I also liked how they informed everyone about proper concert etiquette and many children were present and you don’t see them flip their shit whenever they heared the Zelda theme. Take notice, world.
Now on to the concert itself. I really loved it. My personal highlight is of course the Metroid Piece, a smashing cue that would not be out of place in a Metroid Motion Picture. We have essentially a conflict between Samus’ Theme and Mother Brain’s motif, briefly introduced at the beginning. Then follows an almost Rite of Spring treatment of the Prologue, Lower Norfair, Maridia and Crateria and finally the big battle against Mother Brain and the glorious reprise of the victor. My next favorite is the Wind Waker concerto: At the beginning I even got Wagner Vibes. It is not build around the Wind Waker Theme or The Legend of Zelda Theme as one would expect but instead Roger Wanamo focuses on Aryll’s Theme. The classical band Spark is also a wonderful addition. I always said the music for Wind Waker works best for smaller ensembles and here we have the best of both worlds. The best renditions of Aryll’s Theme are in the second movement. A lovely and elegant romantic piece. Ah and the Encore is fantastic as well, night and day from the 25th Anniversary arrangement.
So enjoy this fantastic concert and now that this Game Concert series has become "a tradition" for the WDR Rundfunkorchester Kln let’s hope for more fantastic concerts in the future.
just a little question, Is this the highest Quality you gave? I’m just askling if you may have some lossless recordings, but it’s fine if you don’t 🙂
Thanks a lot 🙂
All these recent Spielemusikkonzerte concerts really need a proper CD release…
The concert is now up on the WDR’s site.
PlanM@Philharmonie – Livemitschnitt des Konzerts – Orchester und Chor (http://www1.wdr.de/radio/orchester/planm/konzerte/symphonicselections132.html)
Someone might want to try getting a better rip without clicks and distortions. (I haven’t listened to the rip in this thread yet.) The audio quality is probably the same as in the livestream.

try it ourt, maybe it was my imagination, but I don’t recall getting clicks and distortion in the recording posted here
I will try it out. The OP himself said there are a few clicks and distortion, so that’s why I thought I’d mention it.
