Here’s a fine set of Premodern music courtesy of Calliope Ensemble and featuring works of composers such as Michael Praetorius and Henry VIII of England. Enjoy and comment freely.

Indeed. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Calliope one of the seven (or was it nine) Muses? I know about Ourania, Erato, Calliope, and Polymnia, but I’d have to check Wikipedia to remember all the rest. One has to wonder how did our ancestors manage to keep track of so many deities when most of us would go insane just trying to learn about the millions of saints (fictional or otherwise) known to the Roman Catholic Church alone.

This list is very useful:
Clio (History), Urania (Astronomy), Melpomene (Tragedy), Thalia (Comedy), Terpsichore (Dance),
Calliope (Epic Poetry), Erato (Love Poetry), Polhymnia (Songs to the Gods), Euterpe (Lyric Poetry).
