For those that previously downloaded disc 2 (prior to the time stamp on post #20 below)- apparently there were some issues with tracks 40 – 44 (thanks to gururu for the head’s up – the disc 2 link above will now have the 5 troublesome tracks replaced with the fixed tracks). If you don’t want to re-download the entire disc, please replace those 5 tracks with these:

PS on just the 3rd of this month I posted the boot for my "Blog-o-Ween" series — http://spocksrecordround-up.blogspot.com/2013/10/creepy-scary-tv-music.html. I didn’t know this was in the works…

Oh, sorry – I’ll re-rip and upload it; I hope my drive isn’t going bad – I just replaced it a month ago! Thanks for letting me know!
Welcome – I posted a link for just those 5 tracks so those that already downloaded the entire 2nd disc can replace the five troublesome tracks. I’m currently uploading the entire disc with the fixed tracks for anyone that hasn’t downloaded it yet.
You’re a scholar and a gentlemen. And it’s not because of the glasses.
You got that right! Fabulous!! So lovely it scares the sh*t out of me back in the day. Thank you dear Sir!
Thirty three years later I’m reminded that it was intelligent, creative, fabulously entertaining scores like these that got me hooked into soundtrack listening as a kid in the first place.
I had no clue that this was Sukman’s last score before he passed…
A wonderful post as always. I do very much appreciate the effort you put into your many, many great posts. Thanks again.
by the way… I had to ask at some point: what made you change from 4th to 10th now? (great Tennant fan myself and don’t really know much of the series before the 2005 reboot – still look forward to the original episodes – which were never properly shown in my country)
I just felt like changing over from the 4th to the 10th since Tennant is my second favorite Doctor (Tom Baker is still my top favorite, followed by Tennant and then Pertwee rounds out the top three for me).
Many Thanks!
Indeed. The sound quality on that bootleg was just a few notches above excruciating.

Hard to believe that Intrada is now up to Special Collection Vol. 256 with this release now.
I am not trying to be critical, nor am I trying to defame any fans, but I am just curious what track titles from this release people love the most. I was looking forward to this score based off how many forumites held this as their ‘holy grail’, but am now just puzzled!

hi
it depends on what style of score you prefer
some people like a score that has a nice sound design, or works with tension and release in interesting ways… it’s not always about a rousing or memorable melody (not to discount those, it’s all good, depends on the project and what is appropriate)
then there is the memnonic aspect
obviously this is a well loved film and so it’s score will be evocative to that listener who knows the film in different ways than to what a music critic might hear
it also depends on how one will use the music in daily life
is it atmosphere or does one want a listening experience… sometimes it’s an intangible
all are valid uses (often at different times for the same pieces of music)
and yes, it’s true that this score is rather hermannesque and doesn’t really break new ground innovationwise, so maybe you had to be there…
that said, thanx for the upgrade
I had that desk drawer cassette transfer and this is a vast improvement
cool

My angles are similar to reptep23’s.
1) I saw the miniseries broadcast. For its time it was really creepy overall. Remember the vampire kid scratching at the window? And the score (complete with the classical music tag "Dies Irae") was unashamedly SCARY.
2) I also videotaped & redubbed (without commercials) a rebroadcast. At the end credits, instead of the local station’s voiceover, I dubbed music from the ending of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, which you may recall ALSO features the theme "Dies Irae."
3) For thirty years there was no soundtrack release.
4) When I got to hear the OST, my delicious reminiscences of fun scariness returned. IT’S A MEMORY THING for a lot of us.
5) The only weak points, to me, are the 1970s-1980s-style "lounge" source music.
In the same way that musical styles can hit one person just right, and another person says, "eh."
Well, I’ve spouted off enough this time.
Merry Christmastime!
Mark
