So I’m getting the urge to play through FFVII again. However I’ve only just finished playing through it a few months ago. With access to it on PS3 and PSP (PS1 and 2 as well if I really wished.) I have found myself overplaying it, which really stretches how much the power of nostalgia can pull me through. I tend to get through the Disc 1, before losing interest but finishing anyway.

So, does anyone have any creative play through ideas I could attempt?

I obviously know about speed runs and avoiding levelling up (neither of which sounds much fun) so was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions.

Thanks 🙂

Final fantasy 7 is a deep game with lots of materia items and equip. If you play the game using different items or setting random rules for yourself make it fun. For example my last playthrough i used the Nail Bat and no Magic or Summon Materia it was fun.

When replaying, I like to switch up a lot of what I usually do. Like using characters I normally wouldn’t use, or aiming to certain levels, or completing every side quest there is.

FF7 also has a lot of versatility in the answers you choose for the questions other characters ask. Go against the grain! It’s mostly stepping out of your "comfort game zone" that will make the game more enjoyable during replay.

Hmmm… Here’s what I mostly do when replaying the seventh fantasy:

1) I have every character use ONLY his/her initial equipment for the whole game: Buster Sword/Gatling Gun, Bronze Bangle, etcetera.
2) I "waste" time training characters. I often leave Shin-Ra HQ in CD 1 around the LVL. 32 range, with every Limit Break acquired.
3) Do you remember the Midgar Zolom? That huge snake "roaming" the marshes/swamp near the Chocobo Farm? Under normal circumstances, the guy’s a pretty bad foe for the team when they "meet" it, but I set out to become strong enough to win and not even bother with the annoying bird.

No joke, I actually didn’t understand the whole Chocobo catching thing when I was a kid, I used to just save right next to the swamp, then run for it and if I didn’t make it, reload. Years later I understood the whole lure thing but the Midgar Zolom is outrunnable if you get lucky, just depends where it is.

@OP haven’t tried it, but you could make the game ridiculously hard by doing a solo run (except for that one boss near the Shinra sub that’ll pick you up and it’ll be game over) XD

I had a friend who renamed Cloud "Bitch", so that every time that Barret called Cloud a "bitch" he wasn’t able to tell if it was Barret’s regular dialogue or his rename of the character and said the game was endlessly more enjoyable.

I also like to get ridiculously strong early in the game. Leveling up before the Zolom let’s you obtain Beta at an ungodly place in the game. I then combine it with getting the other OP Enemy Attacks as early as possible.

Try replay it using only Yellow, Blue and Pink Materia. No Green or Red Materia is allowed, unless you have to use it to progress the story. So that basically means no Spells or Summons. (i think)

Huge Materia, Dark, Light etc are okay because they’re special.
