Or maybe you are afraid to talk about it.I’m serious.I don’t understand the shows at all and if its a competition or not.Its under this thread cause these are shows. If you don’t get it, then its your problem.
Grand Shriner theodred27
Ok first this is not the good place for that, and second its all about cultural differences. Even more japanese way of life is quite strict and straight actually so they might need that kind of games to laugh a little.
The problem is not the laughter, but the confusion of if this is a competition or not.Are these guys volunteering to entertain people? or is there an outright competition?
This thread is about the "music" not the show per se. Oh I get it and it’s definitely not my problem. However different or if you may "out of this world" that show runs it isn’t about how funny or not, easy or complicated the show was to them it’s a fun show and their target audience is their own people so who are we to question their sort of fun based on our own taste which are good or not? Oh and by the way IMO your thread title conveys some racial slur. If your aim is to promote those YT channels then why just let the discussion there where comments are welcomed and warranted.
I have yet to find any constructive commentary from you though. You haven’t even answered my question, and instead you are mindlessly flaming me.If you haven’t got anything constructive to post to my serious question, lay off this thread. Also:This thread area says film television and classical music.
You have a serious question? Post it in the right place. This thread area actually is
Forum – Downloads – Film, Television and Classical Music Download Links
which this obviously is not.
Anyone care to answer the fucking question? or just throw lame insults?
DAKoftheOTA
Answer the fucking question? The insult is lame and you aren’t contributing to the topic.Get the fuck out of here if you don’t plan to answer my question.I will get the mods to get involved to whoever flames and trolls here. Its not my fault i’m fighting, because you people who answered have contributed nothing to the topic.I simply asked what gives to the shows because i clearly don’t understand what is going on in the show or if there is a winner or loser.I don’t understand it.I asked a question so please try to stay on topic instead of trolling or flaming.Instead of acting like an idiot when you see something and trolling and flaming, try and think logically before responding.
Question answered (politely) in the very first reply.
That you’re getting so much shit is in part because you ignored the first part about posting in the wrong thread, and that you never seemed to notice (or understand,) the explanation in the second part.
That you crafted your question poorly is a separate issue. If you take a rude, dismissive attitude with the way you ask something, you cannot be surprised when you get rude, dismissive replies.
Please do not take this is as insulting. I’m attempting to answer your questions as straight forwardly as possible.

I am basically asking this:Do these games have a winner or loser? or is it 100% for show? do these people get paid to go on? or is it voluntary?
That one of pick up the item makes it seem like there is a reward, and i’m curious about it, but in king of the hill, one of the guys jumped down the slide with one of the guys at the top.

As for other comments, you did indeed post in the download forum, with is supposed to be exclusively links. General discussion topics, such as this, go in errr…General Discussion. Note too, that you are talking television programming, which is not the focus in the original forum anyway. That is for music related to movies and tv (and classical). We do not have a video download section, since those links are not allowed in this forum anyway. After your initial post, you yourself could not have moved the topic anyway, only a mod could (and apparently did), mostly we are just trying to keep the dl board less cluttered (HA), and your discussion will be more effectively answered here. But, do keep in mind that a vast number of members here are not U.S., or even Western. We do have many members (and at least one mod) who are of Asian origin (I do not know the correct or polite way of stating that), and may feel…..uneasy with your premise that just because it makes no sense to you, they must be freaks or aliens.
(Then again, after watching the sexual game shows, come back to me about the "freak" genre….:D)

Then would the shows be comparable to wrestling? Wrestling is fake and there are no true winners or losers, because it is all a show.Sometimes one person loses on purpose and the other time someone wins to try and keep its fans interested.I’m talking about wwf.You can clearly tell they are acting, because of the insults and threats they throw.
Then again, someone around here mentioned people volunteering and getting up on stage for fun and doing these shows yes?

Firstly, the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) is different than the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). In it’s early days, the WWF WAS real wrestling. It only changed prior to the ‘Attitude’ era (around the late 1980’s) with the introduction of ‘Hulkamania’. Then during the ‘Attitude’ era, it became more about entertainment than sport. Yes, for the most part it IS fake. The matches and scripted, the winner already determined.
However, they are trained. While the punches and kicks are indeed ‘pulled’… the aerial acrobatics they engage in aren’t faked. They can get seriously injured, wrestlers like Darren Drozdov (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Drozdov#Injury) is a quadriplegic following a incident in a match with fellow wrestler D’lo Brown in October ’99. There is a real danger for injury and/or death in the WWE… so, yes it IS fake… to a degree.
Second, about the thread topic… The japanese culture is pretty strict when compared to the rest of the world, so shows like this have no real purpose except for entertainment value and stress relief. Take them as they are, and try not to look to deep into them.
Is there anyone who understands japanese? That way i could at least understand what the rules are if any and maybe understand whats going on.
The distinction is not clear.
Where are you watching their shows? In their country or your country? On television or downloaded?
If you downloaded to watch on your screen in your country, they can be "aliens" since it’s not native to your country.
But, hey, you invited them into your screen.
If they are, indeed, exposed to be creatures from outside our poor, mortal world of humans, you still invited them into your screen.
Are they humanoid? Have tentacles? How many eyes do they have?
Are they more monster or alien?
I actually watched the shows on youtube out of curiosity to see if i could understand their shows, and i didn’t.
One day, someone mentioned sushi and the risk of worms, so I spent a whole day googling worms and… 🙁
I now appreciate my hemorrhoids.
My normal, non-squiggling, non-wriggling, non-Cthulhu hemorrhoids.
(PS: Cthulhu is in the Google Dictionary. I missed the first "h" and it suggested the correction for me. :happycroc:)
Actually, right now I want cake. I know, pie is the popular choice, but I want caks.
Dammit.
A delicious lie.
With strawberries.
Just as theodred27 pointed it, it’s all about cultural differences. Surely many people in Japan don’t understand western sense of humor and think exactly the same as your TV shows as you do about ours.
Japanese TV entertainment is known to be unique and "crazy", and it is considered very cultural in Japan. It is a part of the nation, and very important to the country.
I believe you were genuinely curious about it, but the way you asked/posted sounded kind of rude.. "WHY DON’T I UNDERSTAND THIS? WHY WASN’T THIS MADE SO *I* COULD UNDERSTAND?"
And also, calling Japan a country of "aliens" implies that you firmly believe you live in the "right" culture with the "right" humor and that Japan is just a secondary culture with secondary people.
You have your culture, we have ours.. every country has a set of TV shows that don’t necessarily spark any interest with other countries.

I’m sorry, i wasn’t trying to imply an inferior or lesser culture, it is just that i am thoroughly confused, and truly trying to understand these tv shows.
Some of the ways the japanese thinking works makes me wonder, like the japanese comercial for insecticide for roaches where a middle aged woman shakes her huge breasts to scare off or even kill roaches. Its 2 ideas that i never thought to put together and never connected them, and it confuses me for that reason. That would be like showing a guy in his underwear making out with a girl and then put asthma spray next to it, its like:WHAT? WHAT!!?? WHAAAAT?!!!! i don’t get it.
The guy in the underwear thing isn’t real.I made that up.I’m also looking for someone who could translate what is said in some of those game shows , so i could understand the rules to see what is going on.

Let me try to explain: Japan has a very special way of thinking when it comes to everything. I am aware that many people call us crazy for those things (our game shows, our TV commercials, our crazy sex videos). It just is a part of Japan and its culture and humor. Humor can be subjective, and it can be cultural. I can understand why it confuses a foreigner as to why people laugh at it, but this is what the nation enjoys. I believe Japan is known for this, and for also always following traditions, I suppose it’s not an option (or willingness) to change it. Instead, Japan would keep the game shows as a cultural thing, and also add/air other more modern and international things.
As for understanding the game shows: Unless it’s a game show based on a lot of dialogue, they don’t actually say a lot of things that is important for the game itself. The game shows often feature celebrities, which is why people love the shows so much. They get the chance to watch a celebrity do silly things on TV – and enjoying it at the same time.
The marshmallow video you were referring to is from a TV show called "Gaki No Tsukai". Gaki No Tsukai has actually aired since the late 80th on one of Japan’s most popular TV channels. It actually has recurring guests!
I believe and hope this Wiki article will give you a lot of information that you were wondering about:
Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_no_Gaki_no_Tsukai_ya_Arahende)!!
On the flip side, other Japanese TV shows and dramas tend to be very tame and reserved by Western standards. I sometimes watch talk shows for few J-Pop singers and actreses that make me weak-kneed, and think they are mostly flat.
Certainly a nation with an interesting culture but that also pertains to others.
The wiki mentions some of these people are regulars on the show, so its like watching a live standup show then?
There is mention on that wiki that a few are regulars. There is this:Hitoshi Matsumoto (松本人志 Matsumoto Hitoshi?), the boke half of Downtown. Absurdism, sarcasm, and a blunt, ill-tempered persona make up his comedic style
r
it sounds a little like some of the stuff jerry lewis does which is a bit of absurd like he jumps into dean martins arms, or some of the other comedians we can relate to, just a different language and they have a different theater i guess. It sounds like japanese standup, sort of like snl or some of the other famous ones, like richard pryor.
One day, someone mentioned sushi and the risk of worms, so I spent a whole day googling worms and… 🙁
…aaaaand sushi is ruined for me. :ashine:
"You’ll have to excuse my friend. He’s a little slow. The town is back *that* way."
Personally, I find your comment rather racist and offensive. I know this is GD and a lot of stuff slips by, but stuff like this should be held back and not said at all.
lol.
You know the sushi chefs are trained to look for larva and worms. They wouldn’t give out bad sushi.
The real concern for sushi comes from yourself. "Take out" is only ideal for the non-raw foods, like the mild, popular, children’s snack: California Rolls.
Go eat them at the kiddies table.
Eat the raw stuff right away and don’t let it get luke-warm. And don’t ever have raw sushi delivered or taken out.
A friend of mine ordered a whole party tray for take out and left it in his car for a good while before finishing his tasks.
Him a couple others were the only ones who ate the raw food while the rest of us ate the California Rolls.
I told him he shouldn’t eat the raw stuff since he didn’t refrigerate it in the car.
He got bad diarrhea and vomited a lot.
He’s still alive.
I would have eaten the raw sushi but I know how he took care of it. :smrt:
He got what he deserved, imo. Thinking sushi is like any other meal.
It’s ok, you’d have to be Chinese to be offended by that and Chinese people can’t read English letters.
Again with the racially derogative remarks… I have a few friends of Chinese descent who can speak, read and write English better than some who were born in English speaking countries. If all you can do is post racially abusive comments in this thread, why not go and post in another one instead.
I feel like I’d manage to read your posts better if I were drunk.
Great, another "lol Japan" thread. Getting really sick of these.
As wacky as some Japanese pop culture still seems to some of us (even after decades of being exposed to it now), just think about how dumb certain American shows must look to foreigners. You may as well ask "Are Americans aliens from another planet?" and point to shows like Jersey Shore, Duck Dynasty, or Honey Boo Boo. Plus, maybe if you spoke the language you’d be able to figure out what’s going on in Japanese game shows more easily, eh?
Same with wacky sub-cultures. Every country has them, yet whenever one of these "lol Japan" articles is passed around on social media, we behave as if they were representative of the entire population. Idiocy.
20% alcohol here 🙂 hic
They can probably cook rice better than me too.
The silly comments have appeared because your question has been politely answered to the best of our ability, even by some members from the culture. There is nothing else legitimate to say, so derailing the thread is more merciful than watching you drag the bloated corpse along…

Like I said above, the shows are for entertainment value and stress relief. There is no deep meaning or ‘logical Westernised meaning for them.
It’s hard to translate a whole show/episode for you, because a lot of it is random dialogue, common phrases and way of communicating/expressing in the Japanese language. However, I am sure you can find a subtitled game show episode somewhere on YouTube, so you can get a general idea of what they are saying. But unless it’s a questionnaire TV show, you don’t need to know the language to understand what’s going on.
Cool man, I own a thesaurus too. 🙂
I already stated before that i meant no disrespect, so they must be easily offended if they are looking for reasons to be offended, or are playing victim.
I will have to see if i can find subtitles to see if anyone has made subs to understand what the rules are.
As for subs, etc…I think that at this point you are really the only one who gives a shit.
I will have to see if i can find subtitles to see if anyone has made subs to understand what the rules are.
It seems to me that you haven’t read the responses to this thread, or else you would’ve found answers to what you are after. There are no ‘rules’… the ‘game shows’ are a way for the Japanese to vent and just relax and have fun.
Also stating that others are easily offended or playing the victim, personally I find to be very insulting and highly opinionated on your part. You may want to reconsider what you are about to post, BEFORE you hit the Reply button.
I can tell 🙂
