Yoshihiro Kanno – The Four Seasons in Resonance
Label no. 38C37-7042 (Denon)
Year: 1983
format: FLAC

Tracklisting:
1. Winter
2. Spring
3. Summer
4. Fall

Written by Yoshihiro Kanno, performed by the Tomoyuki Okada Percussion Ensemble. Mesmerizing percussion suite by Kanno, using some very clever techniques to evoke everything from icy landscapes (track 1, Winter), crickets and other insects sounding off in the forest (track 2, Spring) to torrential thunderstorms (track 3, Summer).

Fun fact: this recording was apparently widely exported from Japan in 1983 to serve as a "demo disc", due to its digital recording and being one of the earliest CDs on the market. Thirty years later, it still plays flawlessly and sounds pristine. 🙂

Thank you! Demo disc, wow. I have successfully bid on this reference laserdisc (http://www.ebay.de/itm/161105708339?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649). No mention whether it’s orchestral or not…

Wow, fascinating! Is there any way to rip a music laserdisc? I’ve never even heard of such a thing.

I’m curious about this recording. Thank you
It’s a bit challenging and modernist (like much of Kanno’s non-film work), but very rewarding. Hope you enjoy it 🙂
