I completely agree with what you say, and I think many users on this board should remember the good ol’ days of illegal sharing, when stuff encoded at 128kbps was a godsend. At any rate, please, don’t give that kind of folks too much importance. Final Fantasy Shrine has no rules set when it comes to the quality of one’s share(s), the only thing which is asked of users is that they specify stuff like bitrate and file format of their share, so that others know exactly what they’re getting, for example.
You’re pretty much welcome to post what you want, if you think certain users are getting way too annoying or rude, feel free to report their messages.
EDIT:
Generally speaking, "don’t give a crap about complaining users", for every group of folks which isn’t happy with a certain share, there’s another one which appreciates it.
As to two specifics:
The Memoirs of an Invisible man. You say it is mp3 128 high quality. By it’s very nature, 128 is almost as low quality as it gets, and you were getting crap by some because your claim is ….well, crap. You also contend it is the complete score. It is in fact simply the official OST which contains but a fraction of the complete score. Many here collect complete scores. Most often they are unofficial leaks and highly prized. But you post no other info, so after taking the time to download, they are annoyed. Your claim is blatantly incorrect.
As for my comments in the Predator 2 thread, again, your claims are incorrect. I know, you don’t believe me. The disc you have is a bootleg disc, from a shady seller. Half of what is sold there comes from posts of leaks by members here. So, we dissect the claim. It is not the complete score, simple as that. It is not disrespect, it is a discussion about the actual content of the album, which happens in nearly every thread at some time or another.
Now, aside from comments like those very diract one, yea. Some people cannot be happy. "Only mp3? Where’s the flac" being a popular one. Most often is "can’t you do a host I like? Me. me. me". THAT stuff IS ungrateful and disrespectful, and in those cases, Leon is correct in his statement. However, Leon, his statement is directly aimed at me, because he is butthurt that I, and others, are telling him that what he posted is not what he thinks it is.
It’s not uncommon.
Hot topics to put in all input are (in no discernible order): bootlegs, complete, expanded, isolated scores, and recording sessions. (okay, well maybe alphabetical.)
Other hot topics are the bitrates and file format.
We had one dude here who posted just a link and a picture.
Nothing else.
People like to know things.
They’re not demanding higher quality. Most people think that asking for information means judging the quality.
Objectivity is unlike subjectivity and should never be considered nor defended as such.
The dude who posted "blank" threads got severely upset.
His English was very poor and he was drunk most of the time.
He literally had no reason to get upset over anyone asking about the bitrates.
There was no way to tell him that no one meant any harm or intended to pass any judgement.
I think most people who post less than CBR@320 have this unwarranted feeling to protect themselves as much as possible and build up a false sense of anxiety.
Most people won’t really care if you post 128.
People will still download it.
But then there are jackasses who literally spit in your face and drunkenly say "only 128 hurr durr".
I’ll demand for FLAC not because I believe I’m super human and can benefit the higher audiophile qualities like a freaky mutant; but, because I like to edit or do my own lossy encodes.
I might like to do MP3 one day for my portable or I might like to do AAC the next month, shoot, I might even try go for DTS-CD just for the lol’s. :itsamystery:
And, sooner or later, I want to re-encode the end credits to some movies so that they have a score suite instead of something that Miley Cyrus would twerk to.
But I like to have that flexibility.
It’s not intended to demean or degrade anyone as a human being; as, I am learning, they have souls.
I just don’t have a nice way of asking without sounding like an audiophile jackass.
Which I am. A jackass.
But I’m learning to have a… soul. Thing.
Okay, I’m going to go have my period now and listen to some Hans Zimmer.
PS: I think your posts are fine.
But for future consideration, be very wary of posting anything Hans Zimmer.
If you want to see a real internet, cutthroat war, make a share/thread/post/statement about HZ. Oh such sweet memories. T_T
Honestly, I’ve come across posts which sounded like folks were entitled to have recording sessions/complete scores in lossless/good quality… Everyone should think about his/her own actions a bit?!
Just as an fyi, there is a sticky on the main page of the DL forum with posting guidelines. Things like post as much info as possible. Format, bit rate, official ost or boot, year released, size of the archive, that sort of thing The admin Jessie has made it a rule, though a rather loosely enforced one.
THere is NO standard or rule about the quality of rate you post. Sometimes an item is only available at, say, 128. Many members deliberately post lower quality, on the idea they are merely providing a sample and if you want better, buy it. To each their own. In this respect I do totally agree with youo and Leon. They are getting this totally free, and should be content with that, or just not download. Simple. 🙂
Pointing out that something is wrong, when that is actually the case, is absolutely 100% fine and should be encouraged. Sadly, most people like to be a dick about it. That is what creates sensitivity; and makes life difficult for the people with genuine concerns and a desire to posit them courteously… but feel that they cannot because anything – ANYTHING – that has even the vaguest whiff of criticism about it will be met with defensiveness and aggression.
If we work in a "no criticism, only praise" scenario, we end up with people making substandard posts who may have welcomed the opportunity to make them better – but because everybody is scared of getting their throats cut if they say anything, nobody speaks.
Just because somebody is proving something for free, doesn’t mean they don’t care about what they’re providing. If somebody posts something that’s 128kbps and advertise it as "high quality", or makes another mistake, or posts in a silly format, etc, etc, etc… tell them! You’re correct. Just make them aware without making them feel like something you scraped off the bottom of your shoe… 🙂
