I’m not sure how many of you have bought the Before Meteor OST, but one thing strikes me as odd and I was just wondering if someone could help me. Half the battle music in the game is missing. I was under the impression that Before Meteor would contain all the music from the game, but boss battle music isn’t in the at all (and it’s my favourite music!).

Is there something I’m missing? Is it contained on one of the other FFXIV osts (they seem to contain the same music)?

Much obliged to any help.

That’s because Before Meteor is the complete soundtrack for the original version of FFXIV which is now shut down (version 1.0), not ARR (why else do you think it’s called ‘Before Meteor’? It’s referring to the fall of Dalamud which was used as the climax to the shut down of the original game). A Realm Reborn features a mostly new soundtrack (composed by Masayoshi Soken) with a fair amount of tracks reused from 1.0.

Some 1.0 battle themes returned in ARR (like The Promise of Plunder as the dungeon battle theme, the various Primal battle themes like Primal Judgement and Fallen Angel, and the boss battle theme Nemesis), but because of the completely changed field maps and the overhauled battle system, the original 1.0 battle themes were thought to no longer fit the game, and hence were mostly replaced – the same goes for the original town and field themes as well.

A soundtrack album of the new music for ARR isn’t yet available I’m afraid, other than the 6 track ‘Sounds of Eorzea’ album that came with the Collector’s Edition (which just features the three new city daytime themes and the surrounding zone BGM). As for the other earlier FFXIV soundtrack albums, there was only three available, and these were all for 1.0 as well – they’re essentially now redundant anyway as all their tracks feature on Before Meteor.

Thank Enk! I knew it was the 1.0 ost but I was under the impression all the music was recycled (rather than just the majority of it) hence i asked. Thanks for clarifying that they created new tracks, I did not know this. Looks like I have everything available up to this date.
