Dear Frankie is an absolutely wonder film. Gerald Butler made this before Phantom of the Opera but it was held back until the BIG movie was released. This is a delicate and moving film about a little deaf boy who writes letters to his father at sea. He has no idea it is his mother who writes back. She has been protecting the boy from his abusive father by creating a fiction. Then the day comes when the boy’s school has an event that requires the Dads to attend.

Gerald Butler plays the mysterious man who is hired to play this role. We don’t even know his real name. We watch as this man slowly falls not only in love with this amazing child but his amazing mother- puzzled that the real father would absent himself from their lives.

Can’t say I remember the music from this film. Do remember the performances… some without a word of dialogue that are deeply moving.
