POTO 2004 Act 2 Instrumental Excerpts – Zippyshare.com (http://www64.zippyshare.com/v/82277344/file.html)
Anyway, I’m currently working on cleaning up as much of the music as I can from the soundtrack (bar what I have clean from it already), before moving onto something else like Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ for example π
Finally, all the clips included in this demo had massive amounts of vocal echo going right the way through them before I was able remove it all completely. Furthermore, for comparison purposes, I can upload the originals if those interested want to hear what they were like before?
I could actually enjoy this version without dreading over Gerard Butler’s voice.
I imagine the process involves a a fair amount of cross-phase cancellation.
It’d be nice to see what else can be accomplished.
Thanks for the up and the work, moving this to my portable player. :awsm:
Ahem! There are those that collect original song instrumentals from films and shows like this and Disney among others. For example, Pianofiles is full of collectors who would trade their entire collections for what I’ve posted freely on here. Furthermore, you’ve totally failed to grasp the potential of this process in removing unwanted echoes and the like from film soundtracks not currently available to download or purchase – i.e. the complete scores to ‘Titanic’ and the ‘Jurassic Park’ films for example. Finally, it’s members like you that are the reason why I haven’t posted a detailed tutorial on how to do it because quite frankly, you don’t deserve it.
I sing it in the shower either way, what’s your deal? I’ve dreamed to have the Phantom of the Opera recording seasons which I know is almost impossible to get. Like any other film musical, it kind of sucks actually. But scorehunter66, thanks you so much man. I wish I were you.
Seriously? You’re on a soundtrack forum and you need to ask that?
you truly have a gift my friend… just remember that. π
There’s something about the sound quality on the sample that’s bothersome… maybe the process can be further refined…? π

That’ll be down to the source material where the rear channels don’t have the same clarity as the fronts.
Important note – The vocal echo you want to remove HAS to be present in both the front and rear surround sound channels otherwise this process just won’t work! Ideally, you also want a combination of the main score mix in the front channels and the score overhead microphone mix in the rear channels, so as to minimise any phase cancellation artifacts that might occur as a result of this process.
Right, here’s how you do it…
1, Using software like Sony Soundforge, which pans both sets of tracks into stereo automatically (i.e. LH mono track and RH mono track – software like Mixpad has a default middle pan setting, which if left unadjusted will just give you mono), create two seperate stereo tracks out of the front and rear channels of your surround sound mix (ideally you want to use the best possible source available – i.e. either DTS HD MA or Dobly True HD in order to get the best results).
2, Invert the stereo track you made using just the front channels only and press save.
3, Load that and the stereo track made using just the rear channels only into a multi-track mixer/editor (I use Adobe Audtion for this and load the seperate LFE channel as well so I’ve got it all to hand) and before playback of both sets of tracks, open up the mixer function of your software.
4, Start playback on the area you want to clean first and in the mixer window, adjust the volume of the rears stereo track only (usually up, but sometimes down depending upon the mix) until the echo disappears and allow it to run until the echo pops back in again. NOTE – what I tend to do is split the volume difference between both sets of tracks – i.e. if the rears stereo track needs to be 3dbs louder than the fronts stereo track for the vocal echo trace to disappear, I then reduce the fronts by -1.5 dbs and increase the rears by 1.5 dbs accordingly. This incidentally also allows me to make minute adjustments to the volume of both sets of stereo tracks in order to remove any whisper echo traces (sibilance) left over (you may have to use a de-esser or a de-schwer plugin to remove any that still remain even after pin-pointing the exact volume setting for removal by the way).
5, Mixdown that clean portion into a seperate track and then repeat steps 4 and 5 on the next chunk you want to clean and so on.
Finally, you might get the odd stubborn echo that refuses to shift, so either use a parametric equaliser to detect its frequency and then remove it that way, or just do each surround sound channel individually – i.e. LH front and rear channels together first, then the RH front and rear channels together after that.
You’re welcome π
For everyone else interested, I’ve checked a few other soundtracks and can confirm the following are not compatible with the process due to there being no corresponding vocal echo in the rear channels – ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Prince of Egypt’, Disney’s ‘Aladdin’, ‘Evita’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Love Never Dies’, the 10th and 25th anniversary productions of ‘Les Miserables’ (and the 2012 film version), and the 25th anniversary production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.
However, it might prove more fruitful to check out foreign language versions of the above, which may have a more compatible mix (I know nothing exists for a few of them outside of their original languages incidentally).
I’m only using blu-ray sources for this to get the best picture and sound quality possible and will be uploading each video as a HD Windows Media file at 720p resolution.
Anyway, I’m not sure if such content is allowed on here and if that’s the case, I’ll most likely use Tehparadox’ instead.
Finally, those interested in this, let me know below.
Film musicals to begin with yes. However, I may move onto general films afterwards depending upon what music I have available and if I like the film enough to want to give it an isolated score treatment.
I hoping I can apply this method to some films that need the isolated treatment.
bioscope, it could be possible by going to "this link" – Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within – Piratebay (http://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/7783428/)
However, the process doesn’t work on dvdrips.
It does on the DVDs I’ve been using.

I think this could work on FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN Iso score, cause one would have to remove the vocals using a karaoke plugin, but there is still some unfinished stuff in the background. only snag is, its 2 channels only π
I think you’ve totally misread my description of the process and how you need the best sources available for it, which isn’t a stereo file that’s been ruined by a karaoke plugin!

This is really, truly incredible. I would be so thrilled to have the entirety of this Phantom instrumental score, especially for tracks like "All I Ask Of YOur (Reprise)" and "Wandering Child." Thanks for sharing!
BASICALLY EVERY TRACK! lol
I have a mp3 track with some sfxand vocals. Is there a process or a program to separate each one from the other?
thanks!

In a nutshell, no.

thanks anyway
Not possible on ‘Wandering Child’ or ‘The Mirror’ for that fact as both songs have the Phantom’s full voice mixed in around the various channels. However, after pin-pointing the exact settings to remove the vocal echo from ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’, when it ran into ‘Wandering Child’, I had the Phantom singing throughout, but not even a whisper from Christine! Furthermore, on ‘Prima Donna’, you get a very similar effect where the Theatre Managers’ voices are still present (along with the chorus at the end due to a similar kind of mix), but no Raoul or Carlotta!
Furthermore, songs/music like ‘Prologue’, ‘Overture’, ‘Think of Me’, ‘Angel of Music’, ‘Little Lotte’, ‘Magical Lasso’, ‘Why So Silent’, ‘Raoul, I’ve Been There’, ‘All I Ask of You’ (and most of the reprise afterwards), ‘Masquerade’, ‘Madame Giry’s Tale’, ‘Chandelier Crash’, ‘Down Once More’ and the ‘End Titles Suite’ are available clean from various sources, with ‘Hannibal Rehearsal’, ‘Il Muto’, ‘Il Muto Ballet’, ‘Journey to the Cemetery’ and ‘Swordfight’ being clean vocally, but containing background effects, which I can’t very easily remove but will do my best to try.
Anyway, that doesn’t really leave a great deal for me to do using the above-described process and the tracks I’ve done so far are ‘I Have Brought You’, ‘Music of the Night’, ‘Notes’ (was a real bugger that one!), ‘Why So Silent’, ‘We Have All Been Blind’, ‘Twisted’, ‘Seal My Fate Tonight’, ‘Don Juan Triumphant’, ‘Point of No Return’ and the ‘Final Lair’ sequence (‘Track Down This Murderer’). So with that and the above, I’m nearly there with it all now!
Finally, I will be posting some more examples to go with the ‘Title Song’ one I posted earlier, so stay tuned!

Here also is the sequence that runs from the last part of ‘Point of No Return’ through to the Phantom’s unmasking onstage by Christine. Once again, original version first, de-echoed version afterwards.

Too late, I saw it in my e-mail notification haha! Anyway, here as requested is ‘The Music of the Night’. There’s a couple of glitches in it, which will take time to sort out, but seeing as these are just demos and not the finished tracks, I’m posting it ‘as is’ for the time being at least. Once again, the original version is first followed by the de-echoed version.

You’re welcome!
Finally for the moment, here are three clean song instrumentals (‘Angel of Music’, ‘All I Ask of You’ and ‘Masquerade’) ripped from the rear channels of the multi-channel SACD highlights edition of the soundtrack. Incidentally, the ‘Masquerade’ track is roughly 90% clean, but sounds great in any case, which is why I’ve included it. Enjoy!
