Australian composer Christopher Gordon is well known among film music insiders for
his outstanding TV mini series scores for Moby Dick and On the Beach, both
released by Varse Sarabande back in the day. Despite these two very fine scores,
Gordon has not been able to establish himself in Hollywood, which is a shame because is music
is soooo much better than that of most of today’s blockbuster composers (and by that I
mean Hans Zimmer and Remote Control Productions – naturally!).
This third score, When Good Ghouls Go Bad, also released by Varse, was written for a
low-profile Fox Family TV movie in 2001, and since it’s a Halloween-themed feature that
is meant to be fun, then so is the music. A little bit like a cross between the two afore-mentioned,
major Gordon scores and Elfman’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
