FFII Blind Run Question

So I’m working on Blind Running 1-12, never having played any of the FF games before (except 5).

So I’m on FFII, and I’m at the part where you have to get in the cyclone, the only hint the game gave me was I needed to fly, I assumed I needed to use Cid’s airship but that didn’t help at all. I actually had to look up what to do, which was use the pendant on the mirrior in the castle. How in the bloody hell was I supposed to know that? Did I miss something? Is this a sign of things to come in the rest of the series? I really wanted to go into these games without any aid at all, but there is no way I would have figured that out, I spent roughly three hours running around talking to everyone I could in the villages that were left.

FFII was particularly frustrating in that it had that stupid experimental, pseudo adventure game keyword system, where by speaking to NPCs would often give you special keywords you then had to tell another npc to continue in the game, and yes, it made using a strategy guide an absolute necessity. And yes, most FF games do have sections like that from time to time – if you’re playing for the first time, it can be frustrating not knowing where to go or what to do. The best thing I can suggest is to check GameFAQs and see if there are any guides there (usually there are ones which are non-spoiler based where they just give hints needed to progress without spoiling the surprise.

Anyway, don’t despair – you’re not the first player to get caught by obfuscated quest lines in RPGs – I think most players at one time or another will have run afoul of the same problem you’re facing (including myself ;)).

Yeah… well I wanted to blind run them. I prefer to play my first play through of any game without a guide, including RPGs. I got through all the Dragon Quests without them, so I figured I could do this too.
