I can’t believe that VSR is releasing the Star Trek into Darkness score with a total of 42 min 6 seconds of score only fro there release now 28 May 2013. With a grand total of 14 tracks. I was expecting something better from the company for this release. Now in the day of digital downloads you can put out the complete score. I guess they are planning a special edition complete score in the future like Star Trek 2009. I still can’t believe this. I would love to see your alls opinions. I know the movie is 2 hours and 10 minutes long and they have over 100 minutes of score in the movie.

It’s their old "business model" from the 1980s – release only 30+ minutes of material to save costs, but charge full price anyway.

One of the reasons while I now have so many of the older VSD-titles – I waited until the music shop went bankrupt and bought them $1.50 apiece. Else they’d still be there in the shelves, mostly ignored for being way too expensive… and rotting slowly away. 😉

At least they will release the deluxe edition anyway :-D. It’s quite normal they sell like this. They wait especially for the fans, ‘cos they’ll buy anything…you know, and after some while they will release the deluxe but only 5000 copies worldwide. Yeah, shit happens, even in the soundtrack business 🙁

Thanks for the info. I’ll wait for the deluxe edition.

Why do you think that all the studios are releasing a one disc DVD movie, and then selling the "Deluxe" two disc DVD version with bonus features and deleted scenes, because they can get MORE MONEY!!

And that’s the only reason!

When you find a studio that is doing that, instead of throwing all the stuff on one DVD, and selling it for 19.99, like other studios, do what I do, STEAL the f**king DVD, rent it and copy it, or something! DON’T buy the damn thing. That will show the studio what you think of them! 🙂

Good news: 20 minutes from the score (including the full arrangement of "Ode to Harrison" that was played in Luzern (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb7G_VxzZM4) – possible digital bonus track according to Colosseum (http://www.soundtrack-board.de/topic/10829-var%C3%A8se-sarabande-michael-giacchino-star-trek-into-darkness/page-7#entry295185))

@ Jason LeBlanc, you asked what tracks will be heard on Movies on the Radio when Giacchino presents the premier of his score Saturday night. It’s an interesting range of moods, and I think it probably provides a good sense of the score. We feature several pieces listed on the CD — plus a track Michael considers quite important that, I’m surprised to see, is NOT listed on the CD! That piece is "Ode to Harrison," which, you’ll hear Michael explain, is his musical portrait of the character played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Themes he created in that piece recur elsewhere in the score.

Included on Movies on the Radio:
Logos/Pranking the Natives
London Calling
The Kronos Wartet
Ode to Harrison
Ship to Ship
Star Trek Main Title Theme

Here’s the page for the show, which you can "like" and share on Facebook, etc., and where you can leave comments:
Movies on the Radio: Michael Giacchino on his Music for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ – WQXR (http://www.wqxr.org/programs/movies/2013/may/04/)

The show airs May 4th at 9 pm, New York time, on WQXR FM 105.9 and world-wide at wqxr.org

As I mentioned before, Michael’s a great guest, and shares lots of insight and anecdotes that will be of interest to folks here.
