Note: after all the Philip Glass relaxation sessions, I’m ready for a nice adrenaline rush and where better to go than composer Michael Wandmacher whose score completely blew me away in Piranha 3D but always impressed me on album more because it really stood out as a very unique horror experience. In the film you don’t (at least I didn’t) really pay attention to the score as it’s oftentimes heavily buried in the sound mix. I was already aware of Wandmacher from My Bloody Valentine 3D but had never heard his video game scores however I remember snapping this and Piranha 3D up both in their album forms and of course their eventual complete releases. I admired Wandmacher’s highly effective (not to mention high octane) combination of electronic and orchestral elements (ala Brian Tyler) and thrilling rhythms. Once you get hooked, it’s hard to stop listening. This score isn’t like Wandmacher’s horror scores but does feature some rather interesting horror elements. It opens with a vibe reminiscent of something you may have heard in the 90’s with some modern touches that I’m sure several will enjoy. Spaghetti western almost comes to mind as a way to describe it and fans of Tarantino should appreciate that as that is one of the crucial elements of his films.

Enjoy!
