Ol, Seor Donald Duck, Plus Two Nancys, a London Groove, and a Soulful Secret Song!
Baila, Pato Donald, baila! Let’s travel back to 1942, when Walt Disney was trying to exploit the Latin American market
with "Saludos Amigos" (since much of Europe was off-limits because of WWII). The movie marked the first appearance by
Z Carioca, a dancing, cigar-smoking Brazilian parrot. Ay!
This super-rare soundtrack, culled from the original 78s, includes some terrific period music, including the title tune
"Saludos Amigos," which was an Oscar nominee for "Best Song," and "Tico Tico" performed by Aloysio de Oliveria. Yipee!

Thank you very much, Isaia.

The Amigos and Caballeros recordings use the orchestral tracks, as conducted by Charles Woolcut and heard in the film but unfortunately because of contractual reasons most voices have been replaced . In the case of Donald with a much better singer. Both albums have enormous charm and for me personally were responsible for getting me interested in Brazilian music from before Jobim.
Oh and Yannis-I hope fo your sake you kept that Bob and Bobbette book. It’s worth a small fortune I hear. Even in Greek money. 😉
