Hey there guys and gals! Here is my first, fully orchestral album with a bit of 8-bit addition. Of course it’s sampled orchestra… Basically it’s an image album for a game that we all have seen many, many times;).

Check my bandcamp site for some more info, download it, listen to it and say what you think. Some download mirrors will come eventually.

Two weeks ago I was struggling to squeeze out some decent sound from a synth orchestra myself. So much bloody work that was and still isn’t quite there yet (i.e.: I’d die of shame if anyone listened to it). One of the problems I see occurring here as well – the melody line often gets lost under all the layers of polyphony. Probably there’s more that could have been done at the mixing stage to expose the important phrases and to achieve a wider dynamic range. For example there is almost no change in dynamics at all in track 3 starting from 1:56 until the end of it. Also in track 6 – there is no decisive culminating moment when the listener may say: "ah, yes, this is the very moment when we’ve entered the city and a world of wonders appears in front of us"! Otherwise, good work! I especially like the second track. Sounds so Mahlerish. 🙂

I know that, but I wouldn’t blame just mastering/mixing for this, although it’s definitely one of those harder parts for me. I’d love to have a guy (or girl;)) who will mix it, sample it, add all those reverbs, compressors etc. and after that I could… just blame him/her for all mistakes ;D.

I’d die of shame if anyone listened to it

I’m beyond that by now ;D. And I always try to think that way – I have samples and I don’ tknow how to make them sound great (and some people can, oh they can!). But on the other hand Hollywood "composers" has finest live musicians to work with and they cannot make them sound decent either;).

Anyway, I’m glad that you liked it as a whole and huge thanks for opinion, I value that very much. Hope that my next work (which will come eventully) will be… no, will not include samples;).
