For the band, it was a giant step away from the earlier psychedelia of Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of Secrets. In essence, it sounds like the foundation for their "middle period" albums, a sound that would reach it’s full fruition on Dark Side of the Moon. Nicholas Shaffner, in his book "Saucerful of Secrets," points out that, ironically, "the More soundtrack features a higher proportion of actual songs to instrumental mood pieces than several of the Floyd’s regular albums." It is a scattershot album, but an intriguing listen, and not without a few (crazy) diamonds in the rough. – Neville Harson (http://www.sydbarrettpinkfloyd.com/2011/05/pink-floyd-more-album-analysis-neville.html)

I was watching "Classic Albums" on VH1 back in January and it was the making of "Dark Side", and Richard Wright said that he originally wrote "Us and Them" (my favorite track off DSoTM) for a sequence in this film, but the director said it wasn’t right for the part, so they shelved and and during the DSoTM sessions Roger Waters added lyrics to it and what’s on the album is the final result. Pretty cool
Anyway, yeah, great band and quite the underrated album. I remember being young and first hearing The Nile Song on a Compilation album (Relics) and thinking the pressing plant put the wrong song on there. I used to think there was NO WAY this proto cock-rock song was performed by The Pink Floyd!
Also always enjoyed Crying Song, Cymbaline and Green Is The Colour!
I listen to Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall once a week. Not an exaggeration, I always make time to listen to those two albums during my week. DSoTM was played on Easter lol and The Wall will be during a 17 + hour drive tomorrow
A wrist band I wear has lyrics from "The Great Gig in the Sky" on it
Off of AHM, I only like "If" (love that one) and off of Animals I only like Pigs on the Wing, pts. I & II. I don’t know Meddle at all, although I should get to know it, being it’s Floyd and I have it. But The Wall is my favorite album
"If" is beautiful, one of my faves… but, but you love Pink Floyd and obviously love orchestral/symphonic music and don’t like the AHM Suite? And if you own Meddle, you’ve got an excellent precursor to DSoTM! "One of These Days", "Fearless" and "Echoes", all classics and all essential PF!
Thank you very much.
