Thanks so much. You rock.
Seriously.
No. Really. You rock. Hard. Cue the :metal: smilies.

Well, what the hell. Here’s a SECOND mirror!

My prediction failed! 2 days before the expected!
THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS!
EDIT: Think I’m going to move the image text down slightly. Will test when I get home from work today.
And, because I haven’t said it yet, this score is amazing. Thanks for sharing, Akashi San. 🙂
Well, we could also seem something between 3 and 5 as well. Just because they haven’t announced anything for those volumes doesn’t mean nothing is in the works.
Ugh. What a buzz kill. 🙁
They really want to push those Shakespeare references, don’t they?
I vaguely remember allusions to Shakespeare’s work in the show. The sad part is that I don’t think they advance the plot or character development in a meaningful way. I think the show overall is meh besides Oshima’s music.
Anyway, check this thread in 3 months for the second soundtrack, or at least the announcement of it.
Sometimes the guys look like girls though.
As coincidence would have it, my choice of cover picture was the same as Tazer’s but my back cover is a variation on the same theme. Additionally, the font is correct – Tazer’s was close, but this is the right one – it’s called New Renaissance, if anybody’s interested. I have also tried to carry over some of the design and marketing from the official artwork; that is, to refer to the show as "Blast Of Tempest" in English and only "Zetsuen No Tempest" in Japanese. Other differences; I have carried over the Red/Green colour scheme, added a little more commercial-esque design aesthetic. "VOL. 1" becomes the easier-on-the-eye "Volume 1" and is moved to the corner of the front cover and not at all on the back cover – though it is on the spine. The performance credit now reads "Performed by (new line) The Russian State…" rather than "Performed by The (new line) Russian State…" – so make slightly more grammatical sense. Oshima receives her conductor/orchestrator credit on the back cover. (No conductor is explicitly credited in official artwork; the classical convention is that if this is the case, one assumes the composer has taken the role. Additionally, Oshima almost always conducts her own scores – including the Moscow scores – so I think this is a fair assumption.
Oh yes, and there are some minor translation improvements: Appearance becomes Emergence. Collapse becomes Decay. Sudden becomes Surprise, because whilst I understand the desire to keep with Oshima’s one-word cue titles, "Sudden" makes no sense. The original Japanese means more like a sudden event, an unexpected occurrence… and I guess the easiest way to condense that down to one word and have it still coherent in English… is to use the word "Surprise". Emergency becomes Accident because I think it fits better and because, with track 6 getting re-christened "Emergence" I figured I should pick a different word. Most are purely down to personal choice… but I think they work a little better with the tone of the show, the tone of the music, and Oshima’s own tendencies.
Anyway… enjoy. No intention of pissing on Tazer’s great cover – just adding my alternatives which I had already started making before I saw Tazer’s. 🙂
I’m still listening to the entire soundtrack at least twice a day with a total play count of no less than 10. Roll tide, OST Vol. 2!
EDIT: A belated look-over at the scans made me see that Oshima also had a session with LCO Paris. It’s not just the Russian orchestra performing all tracks, it seems.
This is why I doubt I’ll ever reach any level of competence with Japanese. I know enough to get myself out of trouble whilst travelling, enough to seem like a smart-ass in front of somebody who knows nothing, and enough to have at least a vague idea what’s going on in anime if there are no subtitles… I know basics which are useful in correcting machine translations… but fluency? Hahaha, never in a million years. I just don’t have space in my brain for all that insanity… 😉
Oshima also had a session with LCO Paris.
I wonder what that is? The orchestral tracks we’ve had so far all sound like Moscow. Searching for "LCO Paris" yields nothing… I suspect it’s not an orchestra. Maybe it’s something we haven’t heard so far… or it could be the percussion overdubs in track 5. Most curious, all the same… By the way, has anybody else noticed Oshima chanelling Mahler in track 3? Amazing stuff…
Konstantin D. Krimets (1939-2008). I just looked him up. Thought he was conducting Tempest, but…
A great shame… famous primarily as a classical conductor, secondarily for his numerous Japanese projects… and only 69 years of age, as well. I had no idea he’d passed away. Thank you for the information. 🙁
It could just be a makeshift orchestra. There is clearly a section in the artwork (http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=167179) that credits LCO Paris under "Paris Recording Staff" (パリ録音スタッフ). The Paris recording took place in a separate studio called Studio Guillaume Tell (http://www.guillaumetell.com/). I do also find it puzzling because the orchestra(s) used sounds pretty uniform throughout the soundtrack.
Adiantum Blue(s). Was the last score he conducted for Oshima, besides a Lipovitan D commercial and TV Music Best in 2006. I think I’ll try getting some of the soundtracks he conducted :’D
Krimets also conducted a symphonic arrangement of a yaoi game soundtrack called Hana Ki Sou (http://vgmdb.net/album/6637). If you haven’t heard it yet, I could upload in lossless for you.
I was just about to say that it makes no sense to go to Moscow and then hire another orchestra in Paris for fill-in… but this is Japan we’re talking about… the country that records French horns in London and strings in Tokyo… the country that records an orchestra in Tokyo and a choir in Los Angeles. The country that records 99% of the score in London and a few extra minutes in Warsaw. The country that sends Masamichi Amano to Los Angeles to record end credits music for a Mario game.
Anything is possible… Absolutely ANYTHING.
Yaoi:
"Hikaru… walking with you… watching your smile… the way the glimmering moonlight looks reflected in your eyes. I could melt…"
"Shh, don’t say any more, Daisuke."
"But, Hikaru! When I’m with you, I feel like a different person! I feel whole, I feel… alive!"
"Daisuke… I love you. I’ve always loved you, since the first time we met on that dreamy November evening; as the day drifted into night and the first snowflakes of winter fell, I saw you in the mist… I knew then, that my heart would belong to you always."
"Hikaru…"
"Hold me, Daisuke. Take me in your arms, and tell me you love me back."
"Hikaru… I love you. Until the day I die, until the end of time itself, I will love you…"
*they both cry*
Hentai:
"Hikaru! Get over here!"
"Yes Daisuke."
"Get your cock out. I want it, NOW!"
"But… Daisuke… I’m embarassed!"
"BWAHAHAHA! Are you going to cry? I derive sexual arousal from your humiliation! Now, SUCK my eighteen inch pixellated penis!"
"Daisuke, wait… Mmm, Mmph, Urgh! Nrghghghgh!"
"You’re quite a natural, aren’t you, Hikaru!"
I think I would classify Hanasikou as the former and Blue Wolves (which I actually watched all the way through) as most emphatically the latter… 😉
Conveniently, the booklet of the Hana Ki Sou album contains a short list of Japanese orchestral albums that Krimets conducted.
I’ll edit this post later to transcribe that list into English.
And here’s a quick dump of the download links for Hana Ki Sou Symphony:

I have never heard of more than half the items in that list. The one I want to hear the most is Oshima’s TV best, which has been uploaded here in this forum with a dead download link. 🙁
When time permits, I’ll go back to that list and pick out some other promising ones.
Would you upload Hana Ki Sou Symphony again? The current links lead to MediaFire error messages. Thank you for uploading it to begin with! It’s great to discover new symphonic Yaoi soundtracks! They’re not exactly a dime a dozen…
Edit: I found a lossy version for download at Thread 73556
