The selections here all derive from the genre of popular Yiddish theatrical song that flourished as mass-oriented
entertainment among large segments of eastern European immigrant generations in America, beginning before the
turn of the 19th century until the early 1950s.
Leading composers include Abraham Ellstein, Sholom Secunda, Joseph Rumshinsky, and Alexander Olshanetsky.
Booklets with copious liner notes are included in this upload. You’ll find more information
about this very special repertoire and its protagonists on the website of the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music.
