Anyway, I’ve said my piece and I am right – the sample rate is wrong. Few people will notice. That doesn’t change the basic facts.
I have flamed nobody and ridiculed nobody and I would appreciate the same courtesy – I realise that not everybody is interested in the technical number crunching behind digital audio but that doesn’t mean it’s not important.
I talk about these things because I want to help people make their shares better. My intentions are nothing but genuine.

Everyone who’s coming down on you has excellent reason for doing so, and if you don’t understand why what you said was offensive, I strongly suggest you rethink your posting habits going forward. You say you’ve asked the administrators for help? Good–as soon as they see your original posts (which they can, they can see all previous edits of posts, which in this case doesn’t matter since you were quoted several times), you’re likely to find yourself on a bus to Banville.
Around here, when someone shares something, especially a hot item like this, you don’t immediately start criticizing and nitpicking and really just running your mouth for no constructive reason the way you did. You especially don’t keep nagging about it once the poster has addressed it. You nod, say thank you, and maybe ask for a conversion if you need something other than what’s posted. All the composers did have their high points though–Jay Chattaway’s music from the teaser of TNG’s "Starship Mine" as Picard looks around the empty bridge is one example, or Dennis McCarthy’s music for the climax of Voyager’s "Parallax," both pieces I’d love to have in my library in the clear.
EDIT: quite right, Year of Hell had some pretty nice scoring as well, in fact on reflection most of the two-parters (or "Telefilms" as they were advertised after the series concluded) had better music and generally better production values all over.
Well look, Tango did not use any derogatory language or profanity towards me, so I would not say his behavior is abusive. He is entitled to his say, as are you guys.
In my experience, "derogatory" and "profane" are not always prerequisites for "offensive" and "tasteless." But if you’re okay with what took place, then I’m content to let the matter drop.

Talking about sample rates, if I may…
This is what works for me:
I convert the Mp3 to wav to make the CD.
That way I can edit unions between tracks, specially when two tracks are placed segue,without silences,
and Mp3s always make a click on that place.
So really is the same 44.1 or 48 khz for that purpose.
The converter to wav will change any rate to 44.1 and 16 bit to end with a file Wav/CD compatible.
And because You post is in 48Kh, really is more quality that is needed, so not loss of sound/data occurs.

There are some outright stinky scores in TNG… and in DS9… but I think they did manage to achieve some great things within Berman’s boundaries. Chattaway was great, but I was always really fond of Paul Baillargeon’s DS9 scores.
Folk who say these scores are all terrible and that Rick Berman completely wrecked Star Trek scores are exaggerating. I don’t think he necessarily helped but there WERE some good scores.
For the record, I suggested that particular mp3 encoder not because of some sample rate nonsense (I haven’t downloaded the file you uploaded and I encode 48kHz files in various formats all the time for my video segments) but because I figured you might enjoy something very simple to use with no crap. No other agendas behind it. I recommend it to everyone.
As for tangotreats, I’ve said worse shit to people, and people have said worse shit to me. I don’t bother reporting because it’s easier to simply shove their asses on the ignore list.
As for having a bad day….get in fucking line with the rest of us. Sometimes those bad days NEVER END.

I’ve found with converting from WAV to MP3 that the converter always adds a small bit of silence to the very end of the created MP3, resulting in the "click".
I do the same when burning to CD: MP3 > WAV > Edit > Burn.
Never have been able to figure out why it adds that bit of silence.
Its useful to edit LPs also, because let You decide the gap between tracks
and take out unwanted parts of the file, and also make crossfades if needed

All my FLAC uploads are rips from original CDs, or rips from LPs originally edited on Wav.
And yeah, the people who say that all later Trek scores are bland must be deaf. Yeah, there is lots that’s unremarkable, but that’s true of nearly all TV shows. Most works when you watch it, but isn’t memorable or suited to listen to as a soundtrack. But with DS9 there is also quite a few outstanding scores. And this isn’t even everything. They could have easily filled another CD. "The Vistor" was released previously already and is easily on of the best scores in ST. What I’m missing here is "Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang" for example.
In Enterprise they got back to the "grand" scores and it was frequently very distracting. And stereotypical. There was an over-reliance in action already and all of the action scenes were scored over the top. So you could just wait for another predictable action orchestra cue. Sure, they had a big, loud orchestra, but that doesn’t necessarily make it good.
Now there’s an episode whose score is among the greatest TV soundtracks out there. At least we got "Take Me Out to the Holosuite."
And stereotypical. There was an over-reliance in action already and all of the action scenes were scored over the top.
Enterprise always struck me as the least faithful Trek adaptation, mostly because it felt less like the Trek we’d seen since 1987 and more like a cheap action show…which ironically makes it more faithful to the original series. Still, it seemed like there was less character development in favor of cheap theatrics and–to my mind–equally cheap storylines. The music seemed to oscillate between not noticeable enough and way WAY too much. Even the pilot wasn’t really anything to write home about, which I don’t think is something that could be said about any of the pilot soundtracks since Encounter at Farpoint.
What Tango said was merely pointing out about that fact. And that’s not being ungrateful nor means disapproval of Amanda’s share, but actually the opposite, which by this remark is trying to help Amanda to understand this, and by the same token, anyone of us in the moment in which we rip a CD to select the proper sampling rate.
So thank you Amanda for sharing this set for us, even if it’s in 48 Khz, and also thank you Tango to shed some light on the audio sample rate issue.

i can’t wait to listen to this. tbh, i never paid much attention to the scores for the later trek series. the music usually seemed like bland, ambient background noise. however, i recently went back and watched a shitload of DS9 and Voyager and realized there’s actually a ton of good music in some episodes. i really hope lala land does a voyager boxset as well. i know the demand probably isn’t as high, but i’d love to have ‘dark frontier’ sfx free
so far they did TNG, ST V TFF, ST TMP and now DS9. I think they should go ahead and do Insurrection and Nemesis if GNP Cresscendo hasn’t got plans for it already
The encoder I linked was a freeware LAME frontend as well.
With their limited editions, i think they have no excuse to let that one go. 3000 Copies? Ought to sell in no time. This a big planet 🙂

I have no idea how people can charge for MP3 encoders when things like LAME and it’s frontends exist. Probably they pay for keywords on search engines to get people who don’t know much about these things to go to their site.

You and I both know there are any number of people floating around these forums who report all sorts of things. (The FSM "I will Destroy FFshrine" club is still in operation, don’t forget!) And sometimes it’s not even a report. Some hosts monitor stuff. When you click the link, they get told what web page you came from. They get one report, then they know that every single bloody link that comes from XYZ.com is going to be illegal and so they get automatically deleted within minutes. I doubt anybody would disagree that uploading anything and having it stay put for longer than a few hours or even days is now hard work.
So, with that all said and done… I hope these links stay up. I hope that you buy this set if you like it. I bought the RJ box and sold it a few months later. I didn’t buy the TOS box at all. I will buy this one.

The human hearing threshold is about 20kHz. Per Nyquist’s and Shannon’s sampling theorem you need at least two samplings per period. So twice that is 40kHz. Something above 40 was chosen because you need some leeway around the edges and because electronic filters work gradually and don’t cut off exactly at a certain frequency. It’s 44.1 because back then (these standards were finalized in the late 70s) it needed to be compatible with analog video equipment which was used to edit and store the audio. So it’s purely for historical reasons. Pretty much all other digital audio sources use a sampling rate of 48kHz, although they also work at 44.1kHz because of the popularity of the Audio CD (DAT originally didn’t in order to prevent making perfect copies).

We are all grateful when someone takes the time to share these bigger scores, though some of us would rather they not show up so soon after release. I know the effort it takes to convert a score for posting or rip it in a format worth sharing. If I do something wrong, I hope to be corrected so the next time I can do it better and we should all be striving for excellence in this way. The way to improve is to fail, fail, and fail before you finally succeed. Nobody posts a perfect score the first time or succeeds at business the first time. But if everyone just mindlessly said "thanks" to every post, uploaders would never reach the level of excellence that is good for everyone.

All audio CDs have a sampling rate of 44.1 khz per channel. By encoding at 48 khz, Amanda won’t be adding any quality there.

As a matter of fact, as one who’s studied music history, this was actually known to happen, and very frequently. Some performers are also known to have refused to perform at some venues due to poor acoustics.

Bitrate and frequency are two different things. If the CD is 44.1khz to start with, you wouldn’t want to resample it to anything. To have as little loss as possible, you would want to encode in lossless (FLAC, ALAC, etc.), which will result in the exact replica of the CD in 44.1khz but with higher bitrates than MP3s.
You can do a wider range of sound editing though when converting to "higher quality".

There’s electric guitars in the seasons 4-7 arrangement of the DS9 theme. It’s low in the mix but it’s there. It’s more prominent in the alternate versions than the broadcast version.
The cue being talked about here though, is called "Charge!" from the season 4 episode ‘Shattered Mirror’.

As for "Charge", wow, I never noticed that on the show. But it’s possible that it was droned out a bit by the sound effects. That happens on many shows.
For what it’s worth, if you listen to "Soran Kidnaps Geordi" from the recent Generations release, at 0:57 there’s what sounds like a guitar of some kind in the background. It was something I’d never caught from the film, and after listening to that track for the first time, I went back and watched that scene in the movie. If that same instrument is there in the film mix, it’s inaudible.
I think what happens sometimes is that the versions of the cues that we hear on TV or in film are different orchestrations than what we hear on the albums. I know for a fact that "Enterprise First Flight" from Broken Bow is one–the orchestrations are completely different, even if the melodies are the same.
That depends on the composer and their preferences. Often they put the cues on the albums 1:1, but some touch them up where appropriate. Either to get them perfect, to get them how they really wanted or because it has to be cut down for TV compared to the original recording (for example due to time constraints).
Bear McCreary, for example, is known to re-record most tracks for the soundtrack album. Usually that’s great and the differences aren’t huge in most cases, but IMHO it badly backfired once. It’s when he added electric guitars to "Lords of Kobol". Now the guitars work great in the rest of the episode, but that track had a slow, majestic quality and a slow buildup in tempo that was ruined by the guitars.

They probably blacklist based on a hash of the contents rather than (or as well as) the name – it’s what I’d do. If you’re still uploading the same archives, perhaps they might last longer if you recreated them with a slight difference in the contents?

Here is the trick I did.
Somebody sugested here in Fshrine, I don???t remember who.
You have to install an internet security program such
Hotspot Shield (or similar one) and lounch it before
going to Gamefront, and the file will download fine.
But beware, because some sites such peeje doesn???t work with
internet security on. (At least not for me)
So what I do is
1. connect the security, 2, Go to Gamefront link . 3, Download all the files I want to download from there.
After this is done, …
4 disconnect security
5, Download from peeje or deposit files etc.
I agree, I’ve wanted this music for years. Disc 2 is still downloading, taking FOREVER, but its all of the sudden spiked in download speed 🙂 can’t wait. Thanks everyone for the effort in getting this to all of us.

When i saw the episode where the Dominion/The Cardassians conquered the station, i found it odd at first how it wasn’t so much action but kinda a brooding overhelming force "coming in". I got they feeling, they (the dominion) had the confidence to go slow about it. And the music has the same brooding touch.
LOVE how we are introduced to Damar who is so overjoyed the Cardassians got their station back.

Wasn’t actually his introduction on the series though. He first appeared in season 4, the episode "Return To Grace".
Kasidy (with a K and one s) Yates was indeed a nice, friendly person. A Captain. Now the actress who played her (Penny Johnson) is on "Castle" where she also plays a Captain. Police Captain this time. Her character’s last name?

I’m currently converting my DVDs of the series to mp4 format. Itching to finish so I can get back into it once again from the beginning.
It was unlike any other Trek. And, the good commander/captain just gets crazier and scarier every season…. :O
I get to see them on Netflix any time. I am just into season 5 now. 🙂 I do two or three a night, maybe more.
And, TELL me Sisko wasn’t a damn great Klingon.

I think DS9 got it’s ship when they had drawn the curtain on TNG? I think the whole Dominion war they stalled that until TNG was wrapped up, so they wouldn’t need to deal with it in the (TNG) show.
Yeah! However a missed oppoprtunity for me was the end of "Nor The Battle To The Strong". Jake should not have revealed that he had messed up. He should have kept his mouth shut and some inner battle going on. That would have darkened him a little, made him more real. Could have been a nice arc for a few episodes, him being uncomfortable around his father and everyone he had kept the truth from.
Wow! I just imagine him eating with Garak or something. And Garak giving him the advice to keep his secrets.

I had decided I was going to wait to buy the DS9 set till a used copy popped up at Amoeba Records.
I am still going to wait to buy it used there or off amazon marketplace at somepoint. but atleast now i can listen to it till then thanks to you.
Next Gen always reset to "normal". Even Voyager maintained is’t status, though later seasons were a little more involved. Seven was a great addition, as was the evolution of the Doctor. I just adore every aspect of DS9.
Like most people, I fell in love with Next Gen back when we didn’t have anything else and didn’t know any better. And I suppose it’s all right that the cornerstone series for the 24th-century Trek kept a pretty even keel throughout. But we needed the conflict of DS9 to break things up . . . and that’s exactly what we got. The brilliance of that show lay in how much things changed over the years. Can you imagine if that series ended pretty much the same way it started? What a waste that would’ve been!
Which is, in essence, exactly what we got with Voyager. I loved the concept, liked the characters very much, and thought it could go in so many fantastic directions. But it squandered that opportunity through overgenerous use of the reset button. You can’t tell me a Starfleet vessel, so far removed from the Federation, would’ve been able to maintain itself in exactly the same condition for that long a period. They would’ve had to change things, learn to adapt. The Maquis crew should have had to teach the Starfleet folks how to make due with less. By the end of the series, the ship should’ve looked entirely different than when they started out. That would’ve given us a sense that they’d really been through something. But what do we see at the end of the final episode? Voyager sailing into port like it had only been gone a few months.
We got a glimpse of what might have been in the (excellent) two-part episode "The Year of Hell." As that one was drawing to a close, we saw a diminished crew, a severely damaged and patched-up Voyager, and more of a sense of change in two hours than we saw through all seven years of the rest of the show. Why couldn’t they have done it like that. . . ?
Year of Hell was indeed great. So was Equinox, John Savage was awesome as a Captain. Even Neelix in the first episode started out as a great character, fooling the Voyager crew into rescuing "Jennifer Lien". I also always expected an Alternate Universe episode were Voyager was destroyed in the first episode and the remnants of the crew ending up on Chakotays Marquis ship. There was a writers strike, it was a great time for newbies, i fucking should at least have pitched that idea, imagine!

After reading, I think any composer’s Klingon hell is The Dub Stage. Which is a great name for a bar, btw.
Wonder why they left out Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang. The piano song from Equilibrium (by Chattaway, I think) is sorely missing as well.

I am sorry i sound a bit angry here, but if someone takes it upon oneself to share, he should go about it, the most pleasent way. It’s like when i would step in for public speaking or something (the good intented sharing part) and then choose a room the audience isn’t comfortable in.
The second I step up giving any kind of service, i demand absolute excellence from myself and i simply don’t get people who are satisfied with less. And it’s not about being excellent. It’s about your audience and giving them the most pleasant experience ever. It’s more like being emphatic. And i have been to the uploader, not letting my anger irritate him, but well, my anger has gotten the upper hand now.
Ah. Feels good that that’s out. Again thanks for the upload, but the approach is halve baked. That’s just my opinion of course, you, bishtyboshy seem to be satisfied, so i figure i am right only to a degree. Still i feel that way, so i might as well spell it out.
Aim at excellence people, whenever you go public. That’s how those people working on the DS9 show gave us "Trials and Tribblelations". BE A GREAT "BROADCASTER" YOU HAVE THE VERY BEST TO COMPETE WITH! (talking about my aim here, not that i were!)

The second I step up giving any kind of service, i demand absolute excellence from myself and i simply don’t get people who are satisfied with less. And it’s not about being excellent. It’s about your audience and giving them the most pleasant experience ever. It’s more like being emphatic. And i have been to the uploader, not letting my anger irritate him, but well, my anger has gotten the upper hand now.

I think its a shame that this forum (unlike others) does not display the age of the members.
It can often affect the way you respond to them. The natural default is that you assume that someone is the same age as yourself, and consequently of a similar level of comprehension. As you know I am now over 60, but there must be others here of a similar age. They can’t all be teenagers… surely ?.
I often refer to some on the forum as "kiddies", which is far from a compliment. (lol)

Was that aimed at me? Well, i’m 42 and yes i was a little rude but i also DID thank and show appreciation for the upload. But i stand by what i said: You do someone the favor of uploading something, you don’t pair that with dis-service, like needing premium accounts most likely nobody has or expecting people to understand french in an English forum. The same goes for writing an operation manual, trying to get a film production on it legs, with people who don’t give their all, or any other kind of endeavor. You go out there and expose yourself, you give your very best and have sensitivity what people need. Instead of that, i have gotten a photo with a proud boasting smile towardse me, which would be real nice, really, if everything else were in order also. I am the last who doesn’t like to be jolly. Nough said (i hope).
