I got to see this live in La Jolla. It was a fantastic event. I didn’t find this piece to be your typical John Williams though. It is very challenging classical stuff. All the pieces they played that night were very dark.

Some film composers seem uncomfortable or unconvincing when they turn their hands to classical work. I’m pleased to report that Williams’ La Jolla quartet is almost a complete success. As the title suggests it’s an easy-going work, and one which at over 26 minutes recalls the idiom of Schoenberg’s chamber music for mixed instruments, such as his Serenade and Septet. The performances are splendidly done, lively and idiomatic. Thanks for making it available!
