The opposite, I’m a great fan of John Barry. As a matter of fact, he’s one of my favorite soundtrack composers (besides Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Ennio Morricone, Franz Waxman, Danny Elfman….gee, I better end the list here), but would he just have said, that he was tired of only composing the background scores for mostly mediocre flics and wanted to compose something way apart from the movies, that stands on its own feet without the necessity of a fleeting screen, he would have been more convincing than by his feuilletonistic stumblings.
