Here’s a really nice sampler CD (at least I believe it was a sampler, it doesn’t state it on the CD or covers, however the original LP release was). It has some great tracks, which include a really good version of the Star Wars Theme. It’s also nice to have the studio Fanfares.

TRACK LIST

1. Universal Pictures Fanfare [0:16]
2. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Fanfare [0:12]
3. Selznick International Pictures Fanfare [0:17]
4. Warner Bros. Fanfare [0:21]
5. 20th Century Fox Fanfare with Cinemascope Extension [0:22]
6. Star Wars: Main Title [5:42]
7. Captain Blood: Overture [2:11]
8. Now, Voyager: Love Scene/Finale [2:20]
9. Gone With the Wind: Polka [1:09]
10. Elizabeth and Essex: Elizabeth’s Theme [1:52]
11. The Caine Mutiny: March [2:37]
12. Citizen Kane: Salammbo’s Aria [4:18]
13. Knights of the Round Table: Hawks in Fight [1:21]
14. Objective, Burma!: Parachute Drop [2:19]
15. The Guns of Navarone: Prelude [2:24]
16. Julius Caesar: Overture [4:35]
17. Peyton Place: Original Main Title [3:24]
18. The Thing from Another World: Suite [10:34]
19. King of the Khyber Rifles: The Attack on the Mountain Stronghold [3:14]
20. Salome: The Dance of the Seven Veils [5:05]

Apparently track 19 is corrupt so here is that track on it’s own

Password: Goldensands

OK Here we go, 3rd time lucky. Please let me know if this one is OK RudiRe. I have removed the track name from this as it appears this was causing the corruption.

Track #19 + 20 cannot be unpacked.
The error message says: CRC-error or wrong password.

Did anyone else encounter this?

Thanks Pearlcorderman for posting this rare item. But alas, as others have mentioned Track 19 "Attack On The Mountain Stronghold" is non-functioning. Hopefully someone can upload this file to complete this recording.

Sorry to say that, but this time, the error message reads: "Wrong password"

Track #19 therefore still can not be unpacked.

I just tried opening the original and it and it opened fine, I have also tried the download and that opened fine with the password: Goldensands

Has anyone else had the problem as it has been downloaded 4 times (not including my download)?

Something is wrong with track #19. Either the password or the file is corrupted.

Track #19 works fine now. I think, the misdemeanor of this file was caused the LENGTH of the filename.
Since WINDOWS VISTA for example cannot unpack zipped files with a path-length (not filename-length) of over 251 signs,
this might have caused the problem.

When a lengthy filename causes a pathlength to fall over this 251-signs limit, then Windows makes problems.

This idea came to me since the filename of track #19 is the longest in the tracklist….

I had this problem often before, but sometimes it’s hard to figure out the reasons, for you cannot always look up the length of a filename INSIDE a zipped folder which is protected by a password, which won’t work in cases like that.

Usually it helps, to unpack the zipped file under C:\ directely (avoiding additional pathlength like: C:\Users\individual_user_name\Desktop\Charles_Gerh ardt_-_The_Spectacular_World_of_Classic_Film_Scores\TSWo FS.rar\)

But in this case even unpacking under C:\ directely didn’t work – I guess for the total pathlength was still too long.

Your shortening of the filename was the trick.

Troubles away, thank you so much for completing this marvellous CD.

I just wanted to tag the CD when I realized that track #5 is completely missing.

Could you also please rip track #5 and upload it.

It never was part of any upload so far.

Yes, it’s the way the track is titled. I’ve checked, look for "0520th Century Fox With Cinemascope ExtensionCharles Gerhardt0.22.mp3" RudiRe, it will be at the end of the list.

Ok, I finally could manage to extract track #5.
Puh, what a painful birth.

But the child is worth it. I love ALL re-recordings of Charles Gerhardt.

It is a lovely album RudiRe, which is why I wanted to share it with everyone as it is, as far as I am aware, not available anymore.

RudiRe

Yes. It’s a great compilation from other Gerhardt CDs.
I do have another 11 CDs from him, but didn’t know this one.
Some tracks seem to be only on this CD like tracks #18 and 20.
And the massive concentration of all the studio-fanfares at the
beginning also is unique.

The CD ist not manufactured any more but there
are quite some offers at amazon.com, see here:

Amazon.com: Spectacular World of the Classic Film Scores: John Williams, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Miklos Rozsa, Dimitri Tiomkin, Daniel Amfitheatrof, Jimmy McHugh, Charles Gerhardt, National Philharmonic Orchestra: Musi (http://www.amazon.com/Spectacular-World-Classic-Film-Scores/dp/B000003EMQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1355268852&sr=1-1&keywords=The+Spectacular+World)

yet shipping and handling to Europe ist too expensive and rather unsafe.
Lots of stuff gets lost in the "customer’s clearence".

I’ll keep an eye on it at ebay, somewhere in the vicinity.

Thank you very much for this little gem.
