Because the music stems from the score found in MGM’s vaults were in mono and had nothing to do with the album (disc 2) for which a stereo tape was still available.
From the Screen Archives website –
"Although we must say that our first edition was highly appreciated, we received some complaints for using a pristine submaster found in the Sony Music vaults for the ‘album version’. So for this reissue we have our own restoration and mastering of the original first generation master in stereo. The master for the ‘complete original score’ in mono is exactly the same. The Kritzerland addition makes it all a must have download IMHO. This one has spectacular stereo sound.
Anyone else hear a wee bit of what would become a score 2 years down the road: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid? I do.

Thanks in advance.
