The "Official" Firefox soundtrack thread

Okay, gang, there’s been alot of talk regarding this score from Maurice Jarre, since there has been no "Official" release by anyone, and it’s one of the great Jarre scores that hasn’t undergone a treatment from any of the major soundtrack record companies! There is only one attempt at a release, posted here awhile back, but it was inundated with SFX.

PM for link

I didn’t check to make sure that the links are still working, but hopefully they are.

I just tried last week to rip the audio tracks from the DVD, and found a VERY unsettling fact! Apparently, 20th century fox decided to take the 2.1 tracks, and just replicate them into the 6.1 channel sound on the latest release of "Firefox"!!! The tracks on ALL of the channels are EXACTLY the same. They didn’t want to take the time to redo the audio for the newest DVD release, just slammed the front two channels into all the others. Even the center channel has all the talking, music and sound effects. That is the reason that the only music that anyone ever tried to pull, has all the sound effects on it! apparently, whoever did it, tried to use one of those "karaoke" programs, since it is in mono, and you can hear voices echoing in the background, without hearing the actual dialogue! That’s my best guess on that. I just checked over at "Amazon" and they have it listed on Blu-ray at 5.1 surround, where my 2010 DVD release states 6.1 channel surround!!! (Uh-oh) It is a duel release on once disc with "Heartbreak ridge", meaning that one film in on one side, and the other on the back, which means it’s one of those two sided DVD’s with no labels! That is bad news all around, means that the studio did nothing but slam it onto a blu-ray disc without doing any modifing at all. Perhaps they even took the standard video, and just jammed it up to Blu-ray (Like taking 320 MP3, and turning it into flac) with no revamping of the picture. The reviews on the Firefox blu-ray all state that the picture is very grainy and poor in quality! Doesn’t sound good, folks!

Just amazing, this studio system today!

I have ALWAYS said, when they came out with 5.1 surround sound, that the studios should have followed the directions that the creators of that system came up with:

Center speaker should be dialogue only, unless the front left and right channels have people talking in them, over the sound effects.

Front speakers should be sound effects only, unless there is dialogue between two people talking from the left and right of the screen.

Rear speakers should be MUSIC ONLY!!! NO dialogue, no sound effects!

Believe it or not, there are a couple of productions that have done the film this way! With exception of the center speaker which jams the other 4 channels into one mono channel with dialogue, sound effects and music combined, so that people with an old single speaker tube television can play the movie and hear everything! This should be on the 6th channel, with the 5th channel being dialogue only

That is just my humble opinion, as an expert in the movie biz, I feel that it should have been done this way, from the beginning!

So, in conclusion, if anyone has any of the music from the film, please post it here. I’ll see what I can do in the meantime, and I have put "Feelers" out all over! 🙂

I guess the only piece of music from firefox is the re-recording of the end titles, By Nick Raine and the Prague Symphony I believe, for Lawrence Of Arabia expanded release where they stuck it on the end. Link to CD (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005U5FQX6/ref=dm_sp_alb)

Its a pity there is no proper soundtrack to Firefox, its a great movie. Perhaps Clint needs to give 20th Century Fox a good talking to ….

Or, at least the President of Fox’s chair a good talking to… :awsm:

With the letting go (Or the resigning, depending on how you look at it.) of Tom Rothman, the management at Fox is in a bit of a disaray at the moment. Releasing the score to ‘Firefox’ will be the furthest thing from their minds, I’m affraid. Which is a shame. I not only enjoyed the score but the film as well. I wish the treatment of the blu ray was handled better, as William is correct in relaying the quality; it is flat out horrible. Well, one can always hope.

Hi, Will.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Warner Bros. owns the home media distribution rights to Firefox, not 20th. Forgive my rudeness.

I would love an official soundtrack released as well. I ripped the end credits from the DVD and play that track now and again.
