Well, here it is at last, folks. I’m actually regretting buying this now – not because I don’t like the score (I do; it’s magnificent) but because it ended up costing me �25 which for a CD is exhorbitant, but for a lossy iTunes download it’s daylight bloody robbery. For �25 I could’ve imported the CD – and owned a physical product, and a lossless edition of the score. I hope somebody with the CD uploads FLAC sooner or later – but in the mean time, enjoy the score in VBR AAC. It’s lossy, but it’s as good as it gets for the time being.

But I’m wondering which iTunes store you purchased this from? Because it’s encoded with Lavf54.31.100, which I never heard of or seen it used for iTunes files.

Strangely enough, the Japanese iTunes store. Who gives a monkeys what encoder was used, in any case?

Since it’s been brought up, it wasn’t encoded with Lavf – it was wrappered with Lavf. I demuxed the raw AAC audio from the iTunes M4a container and then repacked it in order to get rid of the iTunes watermarking. There’s more to life then Metadata.

I wasn’t complaining, I was only asking a question.

And if you want to get rid of purchase info from AAC files just use iTMS scrubber and the files will stay intact.

And I answered your question, pointless though it was.

The files ARE intact and I’m quite happy with my current method of watermark removal. I like to do the job myself – then I can be certain it was done correctly. No transcoding has taken place; merely a metadata strip and a repackage. I presume that is what iTMS Scrubber does – but I’d rather not entrust my privacy to some nebulous application.

Not that there was anything particularly personal on this one – since it was purchased with a voucher under a fake name, a fake email account created especially for this purpose, and a fake address in Japan… but there you go…
