It’s unfair to think that Final Fantasy: VII is overrated.

I don’t care about the prequels, sequels and all the other stuff.

1.- Good gameplay: Materia, team and minigames.

The Materia system is a lot better than I expected, the characters can learn any spells and upgrade them at the same time and it even lets you summon an esper (if you equipped it), simple like that, and in my opinion, much better than the past ones.

Having 3 characters is not that bad, it works as a plot device: When you bring Cloud and two other people, each character will tell you something different. The only thing that I didn’t like about it is that you never know when you should go an appropiate character.

Maybe it couldn’t have more than 3 charcaters because PlayStaion (PSOne) wasn’t powerful enough.

The minigames are a little but nice contribution to the game:

*Motorcycle chase: This one was very enjoyable and dynamic, no problems with this one.
*Fort Condor: My favorite, all I can say is that this mini game is funny and easy to play if you have money.
*Snowboarding: Similar to Motorcycle chase, instead of using a weapon you shoukld pick up some balloons and avoid obstacles.
*Submarine hunt: Mmm, I didn’t like this one, it doesn’t matter if you can see your enemies, you should get close to them.
*Gold saucer: Mario Party developers need to steal some ideas from the GS.

2.- Great soundtrack.

Once more, Nobuo Uematsu did an amazing job.

The soundtrack is not just Aeris’ Theme and One-Winged Angel. It contains very variated music: Tifa’s Theme, J-E-N-O-V-A, Electro de Chocobo and many more.

I know that in this case, it is up to people if they like the music or not (it’s subjective) but I bet that at least one track will be loved by the person who listens to it.

3.- Wonderful plot.

The story is not just about Cloud vs. Sephiroth.

Gaia hypothesis: Explained by Nanaki’s (Red XIII) grandpa.

Aeris: A lot of people just paid attention to the way she died, I think that the saddest event in the game was the farewell (not Sephiroth killng her), Cloud said it himself: "Aeris will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry or get angry. What about us?… What are WE suposed to do?"

Ending: I always dreamed to watch an ending like this one, people learned to live with nature, that’s why Midgar was covered with leaves and you could hear some kids laughing. It was very beautiful to me.

Don’t you ever meditate/think about life, your actions or doing something to make the world a little bit better? The iPhone 5 won’t make your life better. It’s not neccesary to do something big, it’s easier if everyone puts their two cents (to do one’s bit).

4.- Square Enix killed Final Fantasy.

I read many comments in different forums and videos arguing about why did FFVII got a lot of sequels, prequels and other stuff,
some of those users started "hating" the game just because of that, without a good reason.

♠ Square (now Square Enix) stole the series from Hironobu Sakaguchi after the economic failure of his film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, so he gave Final Fantasy to people he trusted (directors and producers from past games) and Square got rid of him.

♣ Hironobu felt bad after the failure fo his movie / idea (call it whatever you like), so he gave Final Fantasy to people he trusted (directors and producers from past games) and said bye to Square.

♠ or ♣ Square’s financial capital was reduced.

After these events, Square Enix decided to recover the money it lost, making of FFVII a monster called Compilation of Final Fantasy: VII.

Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and it’s midquel Lost Episode, Last Order, On the Way to a Smile and the OVA adaptation form it’s Episode Denzel, The Maiden Who Travels the Planet, Snowboarding and Lateral Biography Turks: The Kids are Alright.

None asked for sequels, prequels and other stuff.

I wish you would form your arguments into actual sentences instead of this bullet point bullshit. If your main points to prove that a game is unjustly deemed overrated are that it looked pretty and made a lot of money I’d say that’s not a stable founding for discussion.

Please elaborate then? Dispel my ignorance, all I saw in that post was that he thought Final Fantasy 7 had good graphics and it was popular.

This is not a review.
The point is: None asked for sequels, prequels or anything like that, you should have paid more attention. It was Square Enix "who" ruined Final Fantasy in it’s totality.

Alright everyone, please settle down – disagreeing with another member’s opinions is one thing, but I don’t tolerate any personal attacks/flaming here. I have no problem with FabulousKing posting in bullet form – at least his points are clear and easy to read. And it’s totally fine if he thinks FFVII is overrated too – it’s his opinion and he’s providing proper reasons as to why he feels that way.
