All together now: DOWN LOAD IT! (trust me, I’m a lovely person)
"Commissioned by Stowkowski… this is powerfully evocative music that invites the mind to pursue imagery and fantasy. For me this is the mountain of the Blue Moon that soars above Shangri-La of Lost Horizon, the place where the world cannot intrude and beauty and reason prevail… Hovhaness knows how to make a direct appeal to the imagination."

If you like the MYSTERIOUS MOUNTAIN symphony (Schwarz bzw. isn’t bad in this work, recorded in the composer’s presence), I definitely recommend some of his later symphonies, especially No.22 (City of Light) and No.50 (Mount St Helens), which are even more expressive. No.50 is available in a very fine version with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, again under Gerard Schwarz, on Telarc – which supplants his own earlier Delos version from Seattle. There are also many intriguing shorter works, like And God Created Great Whales.
I’ve got the CD you’re talking about, with symphonies 22 and 50. Truly amazing work!
