George Fenton is very curious… he doesn’t seem to have a musical voice that *I* can identify. One knows a Goldsmith score when one hears it. George is vague. 84 Charing Cross, Planet Earth, and Stage Beauty are wonderful scores and do not sound anything alike.

The film is a very witty drama/comedy about the last man to play a woman on stage in England before it became legal for women to… well… be women on stage. The score is energetic, melodic and just nifty as all get out.

1. Betterton and Kinnerston
2. In Less Than Three Hours
3. Changing the Law
4. Feelings Undeclared
5. Riding Through St. James’s
6. The King Speaks
7. The Proclamation
8. The Dressing Room
9. The Descent
10. Exile
11. The Rescue
12. The Coach
13. ‘It Is the Cause’
14. Mrs. Hughes…
15. Who Are You Now?
16. End Title (Main Theme Reprise)

Thank you for that score. I enjoyed the movie very much and its climax, with the hero breaking the rules, was quite gripping : is it fake, is it real ? A very witty and exciting movie.

It’s also very ‘naughty’.

"Found a guardian at the gate, did you?"

"Five pounds indeed!"

"It was the weight, not the cost."

Thank you so much, but wait, Fenton has a truly wonderful and beatiful musical voice, I really love him!

Oh, yes, he does have a musical ‘voice’. I guess I should say he doesn’t seem to have a distinct ‘sound’ in which you can jump up and say "That’s Fenton!" What he composes is wonderful… possibly he is unique since he never sounds the same. Horner probably doesn’t understand him at all. 😉
